Notice of Final Decision of New Zealand Geographic Board re Assigning of Place Names

WHEREAS, pursuant to section 12 of the New Zealand Geographic Board Act 1946, notice was given on the 30th day of September 1971 of the intention of the New Zealand Geographic Board to assign the names set out in the Schedule attached to the said notice; and whereas, pursuant to section 13 of the said Act, no objections have been received to such of the proposed names as are set out in the Schedule hereto:

Now, therefore, pursuant to sections 14 and 15 of the said Act, notice is hereby given that the names set out in the Schedule hereto are final decisions of the Board, and that such decisions will take effect on the 30th day of March 1972.

Plans showing the location of the features may be inspected at the office of the Chief Surveyor for the Department, or at the office of the Secretary of the Board.

NORTH AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT
Hen and Chickens Islands

Araara Island For the islet off the south-eastern coast of “Mauitaha” (West Chicken) Island.
Balancing Rock For the precipitous rock on Hen Island which overlooks “Dragon Mouth Cove”.
Boulder Bay Bay at the western coast of Whatupuke Island.
Dolphin Bay The central bay on the northern coast of Lady Alice Island.
Dragon Mouth Cove For the small bay on the western coast of Hen Island, just south of “Lighthouse Bay”.
Koarea Bay Bay formed in inlet between Whatupuke and Coppermine Islands.
Koputotara Point Coastal point at the western headland of “South Cove”, Lady Alice Island.
Korimako Bay For the bay at the south-eastern part of Lady Alice Island.
Lamb Rock Rock off the south-western coast of Hen Island, between “Pukanui Bay” and “Sibson Bay”.
Lighthouse Bay Bay at the western coast of Hen Island, just south of “Stead Bay”.
Mauitaha Island For the westernmost island in the Chickens group. Also known as “West Chicken”.
Moki Rock The rock offshore at the western headland of “Korimako Bay”, Lady Alice Island.
Moran Lookout For the hill which overlooks the northern coast of Hen Island.
Muritai Point Coastal point at the northern coast of Lady Alice Island, near the western headland of “Dolphin Bay”.
Muriwhenua Island For the islet immediately south-east of “Wareware Island”.
Pukanui Bay Bay at the south-western coast of Hen Island.
Pupuha Island For the islet approximately 14 chains south-east of “Muriwhenua Island”.
Rawaru Rock For the rock off the northern coast of Lady Alice Island, near the eastern headland of “Dolphin Bay”.
Reischek Bay At the southern coast of Hen Island, between “Sibson Bay” and “Wahine Bay”.
Sibson Bay At the southern coast of Hen Island between “Lamb Rock” and “Reischek Bay”.
South Cove The central bay at the southern coast of Lady Alice Island.
Starfish Bay The larger bay at the southern coast of Whatupuke Island.
Stead Bay At the western coast of Hen Island, immediately south of “Wilson Bay”.
Tara Rocks A group of rocks approximately 23 chains west of the western coast of Lady Alice Island.
The Pinnacles For the highest hill on Hen Island.
Wahine Bay The southern bay of Hen Island, just east of “Reischek Bay”.

Wareware Island For the most north-westerly islet of the group of islands.
West Bay At the west coast of Lady Alice Island.
Wilson Bay The bay adjacent to the north-western extremity of Hen Island.

Umupuia Beach For the beach on the mainland shores of Tamaki Strait in Hauraki Gulf approximately 2 miles south-east of Maraetai. Instead of “Duders Beach”. Map reference, N. 43/5854.

SOUTH AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT
Hemopo For location of railway crossing loop at the western end of the Kaimai Tunnel under construction, situated in Block X, Wairere Survey District.
Parikawau Trig. Station 1554, situated in Block VIII, Ongarue Survey District. Map reference, N. 92/837474.
Rotokawau The small lake between Lakes Waikare and Ohinewai. Map reference, N. 52/699842.
Tamihana For location of new railway junction and sidings for the Kaimai Tunnel deviation in the vicinity of Waharoa, situated in Block XIII, Wairere Survey District.
Waiari Stream Tributary of Ripia River. Map reference, N. 113/8490. Not “Wairi” (stream), Gazette, July, 1948.
Whatakao For location of railway crossing loop at the eastern end of the Kaimai Tunnel under construction, situated in Block V, Aongatete Survey District.

MARLBOROUGH LAND DISTRICT
Argelin, Mount Mountain, 4,280 ft in height, situated in the upper Avon River area, 7 miles north of Upcot Station. Map reference, S. 35/8863. Instead of “Mount Patriarch”.
Bull Head Coastal point at Bay of Many Coves, Queen Charlotte Sound. Map reference, S. 16/436346. Instead of “East Head”.
Cockle Cove Smaller bay in Bay of Many Coves, Queen Charlotte Sound. Map reference, S. 16/4538. Instead of “Cockle Bay”.
Little Waikawa Bay For bay in outer part of Queen Charlotte Sound, lying to north-west of Motuara Island. Map reference, N.Z.M.S. 236/F8. Instead of “Waikawa Bay”.
Woodlands Bay location opposite Maud Island in Pelorus Sound. Map reference, S. 10/1861. Instead of “Deep Bay”.

Adit Stream Tributary of Te Wiriki Stream, near Braeburn Track. Map reference, S. 33/9365.
Alma Heights For peaks just north-east of the Alma River-Cat Creek junction. Map reference, S. 40/3323.
