Tariff and Development Board Notice No. 238—Deferred Public Hearing Into Continuous Filament Polyester Yarn of Tariff Items 51.01.43, 51.01.44, and 51.01.45

  1. The Tariff and Development Board has acceded to a further request to defer the above public hearing which was to have commenced on Thursday, 7 October 1971 (Notice No. 232—New Zealand Gazette, dated Thursday, 1 July 1971).

  2. The hearing will now commence at 10.30 a.m. on Tuesday, 23 November 1971, and the final date for the lodging of submissions will be Tuesday, 9 November 1971.

Tariff and Development Board Notice No. 236—Public Hearing—New Zealand - Australia Free Trade Agreement—Elimination of Margins—Certain Electrical Apparatus (ex Tariff Heading 85.19)

  1. Tariff and Development Board Notice No. 161 (New Zealand Gazette, dated 12 March 1970) gave notice of the Board's intention to conduct a public hearing on 7 May 1970, into the question of eliminating the margins by which the rates of duty on certain electrical apparatus of Australian origin exceeded the rates of duty on the same apparatus imported from any other source. The Tariff items falling within the scope of the inquiry were set out in the Schedule to notice No. 161 which has been reproduced as a Schedule to this notice.

  2. Tariff and Development Board Notice No. 170 (New Zealand Gazette, dated 15 April 1970) stated that “the objection referred to in Tariff and Development Board Notice No. 161 having been withdrawn, the public inquiry set down to commence on Thursday, 7 May 1970 has been cancelled”.

  3. Subsequent approaches to the Board by interested parties have resulted in a reopening of the inquiry and, in respect of the goods set out in the following Schedule, the Board will, in accordance with its normal procedures, conduct a public hearing in the Boardroom, First Floor, Law Society Building, 26 Waring Taylor Street, Wellington, on Tuesday, 7 December 1971, commencing at 10.30 a.m.

  4. The purpose of the hearing will be to hear evidence (including any further evidence submitted pursuant to this

notice) on the proposed action as it affects these goods. The Board will also consider evidence placed before it regarding any of the rates of duty applicable to these goods and import licensing as it affects them.

  1. Twelve copies of a typewritten statement of the evidence, to be presented under oath at the public hearing by the person tendering it, should reach the Board’s office no later than Tuesday, 23 November 1971. In preparing this evidence the "Notes for Guidance of Witnesses" prepared by the Board may be of assistance. Copies of these notes may be obtained from the Board’s office.
