SCHEDULE

Forty hours shall constitute a week's work, to be worked on 5 days of the week, and 8 hours shall constitute a day's work in or about the exhibition, and, with the exception set out in clause 2 thereof, the daily hours shall be worked consecutively.

No person shall be employed in or about the exhibition for more than 4 hours without an interval of at least three-quarters of an hour for a meal.

(a) Any person employed during any day in or about the exhibition who is employed on that day for more than 8 hours, or before the hour of 8 a.m., or after the hour of 10.30 p.m., or on any day in excess of 5 days per week (whether the excess employment is in or about the exhibition or otherwise) shall be paid for the excess employment at not less than half as much again as the ordinary rate for the first 2 hours and at not less than twice the ordinary rate thereafter.
(b) Any person employed in or about the exhibition on any day that would, but for the provisions of this order, have been a whole holiday for that person by virtue of any Act or of any award or industrial agreement shall be paid for all work done on that day at not less than twice the ordinary rate, whether the work is performed wholly in or about the exhibition or otherwise: Provided that nothing in this sub-clause shall be deemed to deprive any person of any other payment for the said holiday to which he is entitled under any Act or award or industrial agreement.

No male under 18 years of age and no female shall be employed in or about the exhibition after the hour of 10.30 p.m.

For the purposes of the enforcement of an award or industrial agreement, any provision of which has been suspended by this order, any officer of the industrial union or association concerned who is authorised in writing in that behalf by the union or association shall be entitled to interview at his place of employment any person employed in or about the exhibition under that award or industrial agreement at such time or times as may be agreed upon between the officer and the employer of that person, and for this purpose any such officer shall be entitled at any time to have access to the register of passes issued by the promoter.

Nothing in this notice shall be deemed to affect any provisions in an award or industrial agreement requiring workers subject to the award or industrial agreement to be members of a union.

Amendments to the Rules of the Southland Acclimatisation Society
PURSUANT to section 29 of the Wildlife Act 1953, the Minister of Internal Affairs hereby gives notice that he has approved amendments to rules 8 and 9 of the rules of the Southland Acclimatisation Society, and those rules shall hereafter read as follows.
COUNCIL
- (1) The Society shall be governed by a Council of 18, which number shall include the President and two Vice-Presidents. The members of the Council shall be elected from and by the general membership and shall not be eligible for election unless they have their principal place of residence within the district.
(2) The President and two Vice-Presidents shall be elected by the Council from the members thereof at the first meeting of the Council which shall be held within 30 days of the general meeting at which the election for councillors was held. The President and Vice-Presidents shall hold office until their successors are elected by the Council in accordance with this rule. They shall be eligible for re-election.
(3) At each annual general meeting the six councillors who have been longest on the Council without being re-elected shall retire but shall be eligible for re-election.
(4) (a) Any President or Vice-President failing to attend the Council meetings for a period of 3 months without leave of absence shall thereupon cease to be a member of the Council; and in the case of such vacancy or of a vacancy occurring by the death or resignation of the President or any Vice-President, the remaining members of Council shall appoint another member of the Council as President or Vice-President in the place and stead of the deceased, resigned, or absenting President or Vice-President, provided that such vacancy shall not be supplied by the Council except after 7 days' notice given of the new President and/or Vice-President proposed to be appointed.
(b) Any members failing to attend the Council meetings for a period of 3 months without leave of absence shall thereupon cease to be a member of the Council; and in the case of such vacancy or a vacancy occurring by the death or resignation of a member of Council, then the unsuccessful candidate first in order at an election held within 12 months prior to the occurrence of the vacancy shall become a member of the Council but shall be a member of the Council only until the next succeeding election of councillors provided such candidate shall be available for appointment and has obtained not less than 50 per centum of the votes given to the lowest in order of the successful candidate at such election.
(c) In the event of no election having been held within 12 months prior to the occurrence of the vacancy as provided for in rule 8 (4) (b) or a casual vacancy or vacancies, provision for filling which is not made in rule 8 (4) (b), then the remaining members of Council may appoint another member of the Society in the stead of the deceased, resigned, or absenting member until the next succeeding election, provided that such vacancy shall not be supplied by the Council except after 7 days' notice given of the new member to be proposed.
(5) Where any member of the Council ceases to have his principal place of residence within the district he shall be deemed to have retired as a member of the Council as from the date of such cessation and his seat shall be filled in terms of rule 8 (4) (b), 8 (4) (a), or 8 (4) (c), as the case may be.
(6) When any member of the Council ceases to be a member of the Society he shall vacate his office which shall then be filled in terms of rule 8 (4) (a), 8 (4) (b), or 8 (4) (c), as the case may be.
(7) The vacancies occurring by the operation of clauses 2, 3, 4 (b), or 4 (c) of this rule shall be filled by ballot as hereinafter provided.
ELECTION OF COUNCIL
- The election of councillors shall be by postal ballot conducted in the following manner:
(a) The Secretary shall, on or before the 30th day of September, advertise once in each of three daily newspapers circulating in the district, all vacancies to be filled at the annual general meeting and calling for nominations to fill all such vacancies.
(b) Nominations for office shall be in writing signed by the proposer and the seconder and containing the nominee's written acceptance, and all shall be members of the Society on the 10th day of October prior to the election. Nominations must be in the hands of the Secretary not later than 5 p.m. on a day to be fixed by him, being a day between the 11th day of October and the 31st day of October.
(c) Not less than 14 clear days before the date of the annual general meeting, the Secretary shall forward to each member a ballot paper containing the name, occupation, and address of every nominee for office. The names of retiring councillors offering themselves for re-election shall be indicated by an asterisk. The ballot papers shall contain clear instructions on how to vote and state that the voting papers are returnable to the Secretary, and must be received by him on or before a day to be fixed by him and notified on the ballot paper, such day to be within 3 months of the end of the Society's financial year.
The instruction on how to vote shall contain the following instruction:
"Each member shall leave uncancelled the name of any candidate for whom he desires to vote, and shall strike out the name of any candidate for whom he does not desire to vote. Each member shall vote for the full number of candidates required to fill all positions, and any voting paper failing to comply shall be classified invalid."
(d) Any ballot paper received by the Secretary after the specified date shall be enfaced with the particulars of the date and time of receipt by the Secretary, and shall be disregarded in counting the ballot and may be destroyed at the expiration of 1 month after the date of the annual general meeting.
(e) When in an election there are more than six seats to be filled as a result of an appointment or appointments to a casual vacancy or vacancies in terms of rule 8 (4) (b) or 8 (4) (c), then the six candidates polling the highest number of votes shall hold office for 3 years; the candidate polling the seventh highest number of votes shall take the seat having the longest unexpired term, and hold office for the balance of such term; the candidate polling the eighth highest number of votes shall take the seat having the second longest unexpired term, and hold office for the balance of such term and so on.
(f) On receipt of the completed ballot papers (other than those received after the specified date), the Secretary shall hand them unopened to two scrutineers appointed by the Council, and receive a receipt from them for the total number
