Alteration to the Scale of Charges Upon the New Zealand Government Railways

GENERAL SCALE OF CHARGES

PURSUANT to the Government Railways Act 1949, the Minister of Railways hereby
makes the following alterations to the General Scale of Charges made on the 23rd
day of March 1967 and published in the Supplement dated 17th day of April 1967
to the New Zealand Gazette of the 13th day of April 1967 and additions and
alterations thereto as published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 12th day of
September 1968, and in the New Zealand Gazette of the 15th day of October
1970 and to the Local Rates Scale of Charges made on the 22nd day of March
1967 and published in the Supplement dated 10th day of April 1967 to the New
Zealand Gazette
of the 6th day of April 1967 in force on the New Zealand Govern-
ment Railways, and hereby declares that such alterations shall come into force
on the days set out hereunder.

All sections in the Local Rates Scale of Charges . . : }

Sections 1 to 53 inclusive . . . . . . . . 1 February 1971.

GENERAL SCALE OF CHARGES

PASSENGERS

The fares and rates set out in sections 1 to 37 inclusive, with the exceptions indicated hereafter
are increased by 10 per centum, minimum increase 1 cent.

Exceptions—The fares and rates embodied in the following sections are not increased:

2. Ordinary Tickets

Paragraph 1 : Single fares scheduled in this paragraph are increased by 10 per centum and rounded
as follows:

Up to 50 miles . . . . To the nearest cent.
Over 50 miles . . . . To the nearest 5 cents.

Return fares scheduled in this paragraph are abolished.

Insert new paragraph 4.

  1. Return Journeys—The fare for a return journey will be double the single journey fare.

3. Family Excursion Tickets

Paragraph 1: Omit this paragraph and substitute:

  1. Fares—(a) Second-class family tickets available for return travel at five times the ordinary
    adult single fare (section 2), may be issued to parents and their children travelling together on services
    on which section 2 tickets are available—minimum 30 miles.

(b) Family tickets for return travel at five times the special fares for South Island Limited (section
27), may be issued to parents and their children travelling together by the Southerner.
