Price Order No. 2142 (Spirits and Beer)

Pursuant to the Control of Prices Act 1947, the Price Tribunal hereby makes the following Price Order:

PRELIMINARY

  1. Price Order No. 2139* is hereby revoked.

  2. This order may be cited as Price Order No. 2142 and shall come into force on 29th day of September 1970.

  3. In this order, unless the context otherwise requires—

“Ounce” means fluid ounce as defined in the Weights and Measures Proclamation 1946†:

“Standard Measure” means five-eighths of an ounce:

“Quart” means a bottle customarily referred to in the licensed trade as a quart bottle, and having a capacity of approximately 26⅔ oz.

  1. In this order, unless the context otherwise requires—

(a) The Act means the Control of Prices Act 1947; and

(b) Terms and expressions defined in the Act have the meanings so defined.

APPLICATION OF THIS ORDER

  1. This order shall apply—

(a) To all intoxicating liquor sold in public bars of hotels, taverns, or other premises licensed under the Sale of Liquor Act 1962, and

(b) To all draught beer in flagons, and bottled beer in bottles containing 1 quart, sold in hotels, taverns, or other premises licensed under the Sale of Liquor Act 1962 for consumption off the premises.

FIXING MAXIMUM PRICES OF BEER SOLD IN PUBLIC BARS

  1. (1) Subject to the provisions of this order, the maximum price that may be charged by the licensee of licensed premises for beer sold in public bars shall be—

(a) Where the beer is served in a container of a capacity of 20 oz, 25 cents:

(b) Where the beer is served in a container of a capacity of 12 oz, 16 cents:

(c) Where the beer is served in a container of a capacity of 8 oz, 11 cents:

(d) Where the beer is served in a container of a capacity of 7 oz, 10 cents:

(e) Where the beer is served in a container of a capacity of 5 oz, 7 cents:

(f) Where the beer is served in jugs of a capacity of 35 oz, 43 cents:

(g) Where the beer is sold in bottles or cans containing less than 1 quart: the price per bottle or can ruling at the particular premises on 7 August 1970, increased by 1 cent per bottle or can:

(h) Where the beer is sold in bottles containing 1 quart: the price per bottle ruling at the particular premises on 7 August 1970, increased by 2 cents per bottle:

(i) Where beer is served in a container or jug having a capacity other than those specified in (a) to (f) above, the maximum prices that may be charged for beer so sold shall be the price ruling on 7 August 1970, provided, however, that the Tribunal, on application by the licensee of the licensed premises, may authorise an amended maximum price.
