Tariff and Public Works Contracts

Tariff and Development Board Notice No. 182—Public Inquiry into Import Duties and Import Licensing Affecting the Goods of Tariff Items
82.05.03, 82.05.09, 84.48.01, 84.48.09, 84.59.24, 84.60.01, and 84.60.09

  1. In its notice No. 174 concerning the deferment of the public inquiry into moulds and moulding boxes (Tariff items 84.60.01 and
84.60.09), published in the New Zealand Gazette, of 25 June 1970, the Tariff and Development Board stated that it had received
representations which suggested that the original terms of reference as set out in notice No. 130 (New Zealand Gazette, of 28 August 1969)
were unduly restrictive, and that it was awaiting further representations from interested parties before requesting the approval of the Minister
of Customs for extended terms of reference.

  2. Further representations have been received on products of the toolmaking industry other than moulds and moulding boxes, and the
terms of reference for the inquiry have now been extended. The Board will now inquire into and report upon what form of permanent
protection, if any, is necessary in respect of the goods classified within the tariff items set out in the Schedule to this notice.

  3. The Board will, in accordance with its normal procedures, conduct a public inquiry in the Boardroom, First Floor, Law Society
Building, 26 Waring Taylor Street, Wellington, on Tuesday, 24 November 1970, commencing at 10.30 a.m.

  4. Representations have been received by the Board asking that the inquiry, as it affects moulding boxes, should be separated from
consideration of the other goods under inquiry. The Board has decided that evidence about moulding boxes will be heard at the start of
the inquiry, following which evidence will be heard about the other goods. Any person wishing to tender evidence about moulding boxes
should therefore lodge it, in accordance with paragraph 5 of this notice, separately from any other evidence he wishes to present.

  5. Any person who intends to tender evidence should lodge 12 copies of a typewritten statement of the evidence, to be presented under
oath at the public inquiry, with the under-named no later than Tuesday, 3 November 1970. In preparing this evidence the “Notes for
Guidance of Witnesses” prepared by the Board may be of assistance. Copies of these notes may be obtained from the under-named.

Dated at Wellington this 1st day of September 1970.
O. A. BLACK, Secretary, Tariff and Development Board.
P.O. Box 5070, Wellington.
