Manufacturing Retailers' Licences under the Sales Tax Act—Notice No. 1970/8

Pursuant to the Sales Tax Act 1932–33, a licence to act as a manufacturing retailer has been granted as set out in Schedule I hereto.

Tariff and Development Board Notice No. 178—Public Inquiry into Modellers’ Enamels (Ex Tariff Item 32.10.09)

  1. Following receipt by the Minister of Customs of a report from the Emergency Protection Authority, the Government has accepted the recommendation of the Authority that urgent action is necessary in respect of the goods set out in the First Schedule to this notice, and has taken the temporary measures described in that Schedule pending inquiry and report by the Tariff and Development Board.

  2. In accordance with the provisions of the Tariff and Development Board Act, the Minister of Customs has requested the Board to inquire into and report as to what form and extent of protection, if any, is necessary in respect of modellers' enamels which prior to the introduction of the temporary measures described in the First Schedule were classified in the Tariff as set out in the Second Schedule to this notice.

  3. The Board will, in accordance with its normal procedures, conduct a public inquiry in the Boardroom, First Floor, Law Society Building, 26 Waring Taylor Street, Wellington, on Friday, 30 October 1970, commencing at 10.30 a.m.

  4. Any person who intends to tender evidence should lodge 12 copies of a typewritten statement of the evidence, to be presented under oath at the public inquiry, with the under-named no later than Friday, 23 October 1970. In preparing this evidence the “Notes for Guidance of Witnesses” prepared by the Board may be of assistance. Copies of these notes may be obtained from the Board’s office.

FIRST SCHEDULE

GOODS SUBJECT TO TEMPORARY MEASURES

PAINTS and enamels of a kind used on recreational models, put up in containers of a capacity not exceeding ⅔ fluid ounce.

TEMPORARY MEASURES TAKEN

Additional duty of 27½ percent on imports of the goods, now reclassified in Tariff item 32.10.02, from all sources except Australia, in which case the goods remain free of duty.
