Tariff and Development Board Notice No. 175—Public Inquiry into Import Duties and Import Licensing Affecting the Various Measuring, Checking, Regulating, Controlling, Recording, and Analysing Instruments and Apparatus of Tariff Items 90.23.00, 90.24.01, 90.24.09, 90.25.00, 90.28.00 and Parts or Accessories of such Instruments and Apparatus Classified in Tariff Item 90.29.00.

In its report No. 108 to the Minister of Industries and Commerce, arising from an inquiry concerning duty and import licensing in respect of certain chart temperature recorders (Ex T.I. 90.23.00), the Board recommended continuation of import control on these goods until such time as there could be a review of the wider field of related instruments and apparatus.

This recommendation was accepted by Government, and the Board has now been requested by the Minister of Customs to inquire into and report on what form of protection, if any, by way of customs duties and/or import licensing should be accorded to the manufacture in New Zealand of the various instruments, apparatus, and parts and accessories enumerated in the Schedule to this Notice.

The Board will, in accordance with its normal procedures, conduct a public inquiry in the Boardroom, First Floor, Law Society Building, 26 Waring Taylor Street, Wellington, on Tuesday, 13 October 1970, commencing at 10.30 a.m.

Any person who wishes to tender evidence should lodge 12 copies of a typewritten statement of the evidence, to be presented under oath at the public inquiry, at the Board’s office no later than Friday, 25 September 1970. In preparing this evidence the “Notes for Guidance of Witnesses” prepared by the Board may be of assistance. Copies of these “Notes” may be obtained from the Board’s office.
