Electrical Wiring Regulations 1961—Electrical Apparatus Which May Constitute an Electrical Hazard
PURSUANT to regulation 8 of the Electrical Wiring Regulations 1961, notice is hereby given that:
- The apparatus described below may, in my opinion, constitute an electrical hazard:
Description: Mains operated electric fence controller marked on front of cover—
GALLAGHER
MAINS OPERATED
ELECTRIC FENCE CONTROLLER
prov N.Z. PATENT No. 146272
OVERSEAS PATENTS PENDING
DESIGNED & BUILT BY PRECISION ELECTRONICS LTD, HAMILTON, N.Z.
- The possible electrical hazard arises from the failure of some (or all) of this make of electric fence controller to comply with the electrical safety requirements of New Zealand Standard Specification 1525:1962 (Mains operated electric fence controllers) or other approved standard specification.
Compliance with the electrical safety requirements of NZSS 1525 or other approved standard specification is a statutory requirement for mains-operated electric fence controllers.
- In particular, tests conducted on some of the controllers have shown that the output (voltage and/or current) is much higher than the maximum permitted by NZSS 1525.
The limitations on the output given in NZSS 1525 are similar to those of other approved standard specifications from overseas and are considered essential in the interests of public safety.
-
All persons who possess one of the above-mentioned electric fence controllers should take steps to ensure that its output is not greater than the maximum specified in NZSS 1525.
-
Every person who sells or offers for sale any apparatus which, in the opinion of the General Manager, New Zealand Electricity Department, constitutes or may constitute an electrical hazard commits an offence and shall be liable to a fine not exceeding $200.
Dated at Wellington this 29th day of April 1970.
E. B. MACKENZIE, General Manager,
New Zealand Electricity Department.
