Any person wishing to lodge an objection to the granting of these applications should do so in writing on or before 9 April 1970.
Submissions should include a reference to the application number, Tariff item, and description of goods concerned, be addressed to the
Comptroller of Customs, Private Bag, Wellington, and supported by information as to:
(a) The range of equivalent goods manufactured locally;
(b) The proportion of New Zealand and imported materials used in manufacture;
(c) Present and potential output; and
(d) Details of factory cost in terms of materials, labour, overhead, etc.

Tariff and Development Board Notice No. 163—Public Inquiry into Import Duties and Import Licensing Affecting Certain Audio-frequency Electric Amplifiers and Certain High-fidelity Tuning Units

  1. The Minister of Customs has requested the Tariff and Development Board to inquire into and report on the following questions:
    (a) Whether audio-frequency electric amplifiers, 20–90 w output, for use in integrated high-fidelity stereo systems, should be determined under Tariff item 85.14.04.
    (b) Whether radio tuners, 525 kHz–1605 kHz tuning range, for use in integrated high-fidelity stereo systems, should be determined under Tariff item 85.15.43.
    (c) If so determined, what ad valorem rates should be applied.
  2. The goods in question are covered by the following Tariff provisions:

    The amplifiers and tuners in question are at present entitled to be entered at the rates of duty under Tariff items 85.14.05 and 85.15.44 respectively.
  3. This inquiry arises from a manufacturer having requested that the goods in question be determined at the maximum rates of duty under Tariff items 85.14.04 and 85.15.43 respectively.
  4. The Board will also include in its inquiry the question of import licensing as it affects these goods.
  5. In accordance with its normal procedures, the Board will conduct a public inquiry in the Boardroom, First Floor, Law Society Building, 26 Waring Taylor Street, Wellington, on Thursday, 11 June 1970, commencing at 10.30 a.m.
  6. Twelve copies of a typewritten statement of the evidence, to be presented under oath at the public inquiry by the person tendering it, should reach the Board’s office no later than Thursday, 28 May 1970. In preparing this evidence the “Notes for Guidance of Witnesses”, prepared by the Board, may be of assistance. Copies of these notes may be obtained from the Board’s office.
