part Section 1, Block XVIII, Tuahu Survey District, along the south-western and western boundaries of the said section, crossing an intervening public road four times, along the northern boundary of Section 1, Block XV, Tuahu Survey District, across that same public road and again along that northern boundary, the northern boundaries of Section 2, the said Section 1, and Section 3, Block XV, Tuahu Survey District, along the northern boundaries of Section 5, Block XIV, and Section 2, Block XIII, Tuahu Survey District, across a public road and again along the last-mentioned boundary to the south-eastern corner of Section 2, Block IX, Tuahu Survey District, along the eastern boundaries of the said Section 2 and Section 1, Block IX, and the production of the last-mentioned boundary to the middle of the Gisborne-Waikaremoana Road, south-westerly along the middle of that road to its junction with State Highway No. 38, along the middle of that State highway to a point in line with the middle of the Aniwaniwa Stream, down the middle of that stream to a point in line with the south-western boundary of part Waipaoa No. 2, to and along that boundary, the western boundary of the said part 2, and along the south-western and north-western boundaries of Waipaoa No. 4, the north-western boundary of part Waipaoa No. 5 and its production to a point on the Wairoa County, being a right line between Trig. Station 2126, Maungapohatu, and Trig. Station Puketapu, in Block II, Tuahu Survey District; thence south-westerly generally along that county boundary, hereinbefore described, to the production south-westerly of a right line between the northernmost point on the shore of Lake Waikaremoana and a point one hundred and eighty (180) chains due north of Trig. Station C. 2, Maungataniwha, being a point on the Waiau Riding, hereinbefore described; thence south-easterly generally along that riding boundary to the point of commencement.

Boundaries of County of Westland and Northern, Central, and Southern Ridings of County of Westland Defined


PURSUANT to section 16 of the Counties Act 1956, the Secretary for Internal Affairs hereby defines, as set out in the Schedule hereto, the boundaries of the County of Westland and the Northern and Southern Ridings of the County of Westland, the boundaries having previously been altered by Order in Council on 7 July 1920, published in Gazette, 8 July 1920, No. 65, p. 2138; and on 24 March 1969, published in Gazette, 27 March 1969, No. 17, p. 556; and also the boundaries of the Central Riding of the County of Westland, the last-mentioned boundaries being affected by the said alteration.


SCHEDULE

BOUNDARIES OF COUNTY OF WESTLAND

ALL that area in the Westland Land District containing 4,411 square miles, more or less, bounded by a line commencing at a point at the middle of the mouth of the Taramakau River and proceeding south-easterly generally up the middle of that river to its source; thence easterly along a right line to the summit of Harper Pass; thence south-westerly generally along the summit of the Main Divide to the summit of Mount Aspiring; thence westerly along a right line to a point in the middle of the mouth of the Awarua River, at Big Bay; thence generally north-easterly along the sea coast to the point of commencement, excluding therefrom the Borough of Ross, as described in Gazette, 1878, pp. 3 and 1009, and the Borough of Hokitika, as described in Gazette, 1925, p. 1923.


BOUNDARIES OF NORTHERN RIDING OF COUNTY OF WESTLAND

ALL that area in the Westland Land District bounded by a line commencing at a point in the middle of the mouth of the Taramakau River and proceeding south-easterly generally up the middle of that river to its source; thence easterly along a right line to the summit of Harper Pass; thence south-westerly generally along the summit of the Main Divide to the summit of Brownings Pass; thence northerly along a right line to the source of the Arahura River; thence north-westerly generally along the middle of the said river to the junction of that river with Caledonian Creek; thence up the middle of the said creek to a point in line with the common boundary between part Reserve 145, situated in Block VII, Kaniere Survey District, and part Reserve 1622, situated in Block VII, aforesaid, State forest, as described in Gazette, 1935, p. 1020; thence north-westerly to and along that boundary to the south-western corner of the road forming the boundaries between part Reserve 145, aforesaid, and part Reserve 1622, State forest, aforesaid; thence northerly along the western side of the said road to the southernmost corner of Rural Section 3575, situated in Block III, Kaniere Survey District, being also the easternmost corner of part Reserve 1622, situated in Block III, aforesaid, provisional State forest, as described in Gazette, 1920, p. 2840; thence north-westerly along the common boundary between part Reserve 1622, provisional State forest, aforesaid, and part Reserve 1622, State forest, aforesaid, to the southernmost corner of Rural Section 722, situated in Blocks I and II, Kaniere Survey District; thence northerly along the western side of the road forming the eastern boundaries of the western portion of Rural Section 722, aforesaid, to the north-eastern corner of Rural Section 2906, situated in Blocks I and II, Kaniere Survey District; thence north-easterly along the south-western boundary of Rural Section 2906, aforesaid, produced to the northern side of the Blue Spur Road; thence south-westerly generally along the northern and western sides of Blue Spur Road to the north-eastern side of Hauhau Road; thence north-westerly generally along the northern and eastern sides of Hauhau Road to the south-western corner of Rural Section 4356, situated in Block I, Kaniere Survey District; thence north-easterly and north-westerly along the south-eastern and north-eastern boundaries of the Hokitika Borough, as described in Gazette, 1925, p. 1923, to the sea coast; thence north-easterly generally along the sea coast to the point of commencement.


BOUNDARIES OF CENTRAL RIDING OF COUNTY OF WESTLAND

ALL that area in the Westland Land District bounded by a line commencing at a point in the middle of the south of the Hokitika River and proceeding up the middle of that river to a point in line with the south-eastern boundary of the Hokitika Borough, as described in Gazette, 1925, p. 1923; thence north-easterly along the said south-eastern boundary of Hokitika Borough to and across Hauhau Road to the south-western corner of Rural Section 4356, situated in Block X, Kaniere Survey District; thence generally southerly along the northern side of Hauhau Road to the north-western side of Blue Spur Road; thence north-easterly generally along the western and northern sides of Blue Spur Road to a point in line with the eastern boundary of Rural Section 2906, situated in Blocks I and II, Kaniere Survey District; thence along that line to the north-eastern corner of Rural Section 2906, aforesaid; thence generally southerly along the western side of the road forming the eastern boundaries of the western portion of Rural Section 722, situated in Blocks I and II, Kaniere Survey District, to the southernmost corner of Rural Section 722, aforesaid; thence south-easterly along the common boundary between part Reserve 1622, provisional State forest, as described in Gazette, 1920, p. 2840, and part Reserve 1622, State forest, as described in Gazette, 1935, p. 1020, to the western side of the road forming the boundary between part Reserve 1622, State forest, aforesaid, and part Reserve 145; thence southerly along the western side of the said road to its south-westernmost corner; thence south-easterly along the common boundary between part Reserve 145 and part Reserve 1622, State forest, aforesaid, and along that boundary produced to the middle of Caledonian Creek; thence down the middle of Caledonian Creek to the middle of the Arahura River; thence up the middle of the said Arahura River to its source; thence southerly along a right line to the summit of Brownings Pass; thence generally southerly along the Main Divide to the summit of Whitcombe Pass; thence northerly along a right line to the source of the Whitcombe River; thence generally northerly along the right bank of the said Whitcombe River to a point opposite the junction of the Price River; thence north-westerly along a right line to the junction of Scamper Creek and Mikonui River; thence generally north-westerly along the right bank of the said Mikonui River to the sea coast; thence generally north-easterly along the sea coast to the point of commencement, excluding therefrom the Borough of Ross, as described in Gazette, 1878, pp. 3 and 1009.


BOUNDARIES OF SOUTHERN RIDING OF COUNTY OF WESTLAND

ALL that area in the Westland Land District bounded by a line commencing at a point on the right bank of the mouth of the Mikonui River; thence proceeding south-easterly generally along the said river bank to its junction with Scamper Creek; thence south-easterly along a right line to a point on the right bank of the Whitcombe River opposite the junction of the said river with Price River; thence southerly generally along the right bank of the said Whitcombe River to its source; thence southerly along a right line to the summit of Whitcombe Pass; thence south-westerly generally along the summit of the Main Divide to the summit of Mount Aspiring; thence westerly along a right line to a point in the middle of the mouth of the Awarua River, at Big Bay; thence north-easterly generally along the sea coast to the point of commencement.
