Boundaries of County of Waihemo and Palmerston Riding of
County of Waihemo Defined
PURSUANT to section 16 of the Counties Act 1956, the Secre-
tary for Internal Affairs hereby defines, as set out in the
Schedule hereto, the boundaries of the County of Waihemo
and of the Palmerston Riding of the County of Waihemo,
the previous boundaries having been altered by Order in
Council made on 20 February 1967, and published in Gazette,
23 February 1967, No. 11, page 260.
SCHEDULE
BOUNDARIES OF THE COUNTY OF WAIHEMO
ALL that area in the Otago Land District bounded by a line
commencing at Trig. Station “A”, Kakanui Peak, situated at
the southernmost corner of Run 681, Kakanui Survey Dis-
trict, and proceeding generally south-easterly along the south-
western boundary of Run 682 to the northernmost corner of
Section 1, Block XV, Kakanui Survey District; thence gener-
ally south-westerly and south-easterly along the north-western
and south-western boundaries of that Section 1 to the western
boundary of Run 571; thence generally south-easterly along
the south-western boundaries of Runs 571, 572, and 699 to the
easternmost corner of Section 4, Block IX, Waihemo Survey
District; thence south-easterly to and along a leading ridge
through Run 699 to a point on the north-western boundary
of Run 700, distant 4,000 links approximately north-easterly
from the northernmost corner of Section 24, Block VIII,
Waihemo Survey District; thence generally south-westerly
along that north-western boundary of Run 700 to the north-
ernmost corner of Section 24 aforesaid; thence generally
south-easterly along the north-eastern boundaries of Blocks
VIII, V, and III, Waihemo Survey District, to the northern-
most corner of Section 10, Block XV, Moeraki Survey Dis-
trict; thence south-westerly along the north-western boundary
of Section 10 aforesaid to the westernmost corner of that
Section 10; thence generally south-easterly along the north-
eastern side of Razorback Track and its production to the
north-western boundary of Section 6, Block XIV, Moeraki
Survey District; thence generally south-westerly, southerly,
and south-easterly along the north-western, western, and
south-western boundaries of Section 6 aforesaid, and the
south-western boundary of Sections 10 and 11, Block XIV,
aforesaid, to a point in line with the western boundary of
Section 3, Block XIV, aforesaid; thence southerly to and
along the western boundary of that Section 3 to the northern
boundary of Block XII, Moeraki Survey District; thence
easterly and southerly along the northern and eastern bound-
aries of Block XII aforesaid, to the northern boundary of
Block VI, Moeraki Survey District; thence easterly along
the northern boundary of Block VI, aforesaid, to the south-
eastern side of a road intersecting Section 31, Block XI,
Moeraki Survey District; thence north-easterly along the
south-eastern side of that road intersecting Section 31, afore-
said, to the south-western side of the road forming the north-
eastern boundary of Section 31, aforesaid, and intersecting
Section 46, Block XI, aforesaid; thence south-easterly along
the south-western side of that road to the north-western side
of Horse Range Road; thence generally south-westerly and
south-easterly along the north-western and south-western
sides of that road to a point in line with the generally south-
western boundary of Section 919R, Block IX, Moeraki Survey
District; thence north-easterly to and generally south-easterly
along the south-western boundary of that Section 919R and
the south-western boundary of a closed road intersecting the
land shown on Deposited Plan 211 and the production of the
last-mentioned boundary to the northern boundary of Block
III, Moeraki Survey District; thence easterly and northerly
along the northern and western boundaries of Block III afore-
said to the sea coast; thence generally south-easterly and
south-westerly along the sea coast to left (north-east) bank
of the Pleasant River; thence generally north-westerly along
the left bank of the Pleasant River to a point on a right line
bearing 45° north-eastwards from the intersection of the
right bank of the Pleasant River with the left bank of Watkin
Creek; thence south-westerly along that right line to the inter-
section of the right bank of the Pleasant River and the left
bank of Watkin Creek, aforesaid; thence generally north-
westerly along the left bank of Watkin Creek to the western
boundary of Section 46, Block II, Hawksbury Survey Dis-
trict; thence generally northerly along the western boundary
of Section 46, aforesaid, and the eastern side of the Awanui-
Bluff State Highway No. 1 to and generally westerly along
the northern boundary of Hawksbury Survey District and
its production to the middle of Waikouaiti River (North
Branch); thence generally north-westerly up the middle of
that river to the south-eastern boundary of Block I, Highlay
Survey District; thence generally westerly and north-easterly
along the generally southern and north-western boundaries
of Block I, aforesaid, to the south-eastern corner of Section
19, Block II, Budle Survey District; thence generally south-
westerly along the generally north-western boundaries of
Runs 121g and 121h to the easternmost corner of Section 26,
Block VI, Budle Survey District; thence generally south-
westerly and north-westerly along the south-eastern and south-
western boundaries of Section 26, aforesaid, to its western-
most corner; thence north-westerly along a right line to the
easternmost corner of Section 22, Block VI, aforesaid; thence
generally north-westerly along the north-eastern boundaries
of Sections 22, 18, and 19, Block VI, aforesaid, to the western-
most corner of the last-mentioned section; thence north-
westerly and north-easterly along the south-western and south-
western boundaries of Section 20, Block VI, aforesaid, and
the north-western boundary of Section 21, Block VI, afore-
said, to a point in line with the northern boundary of Section
17, Block VII, Strath Taieri Survey District; thence generally
westerly to and along the northern boundaries of Sections 17
and 18, Block VII, aforesaid, and the production of the last-
mentioned boundary to the south-eastern boundary of Section
1, Block III, Strath Taieri Survey District; thence south-
westerly and north-westerly along the south-eastern and south-
western boundaries of Section 1, aforesaid, to the intersection
of that south-western boundary of Section 1 with a right line
between Trig. Station “D”, Hummock, and a point on the
right bank of the Taieri River on the production south-
eastward of the south-western boundary of Run 714, Strath
Taieri Survey District; thence north-westerly along that right
line to the middle of the Taieri River; thence generally
canterly up the middle of that river to a point in line with
the middle of the Horse Burn; thence generally north-easterly
to and up the middle of the Horse Burn to its source approxi-
mately 36 chains south-east of Trig. Station “K”, Flat Hill;
thence north-westerly along a right line to Trig. Station “K”,
Flat Hill; thence due east along the southern boundary of
Swinburn Survey District to the middle of McLeods Road;
thence generally north-easterly along the middle of McLeods
Road, being along the summit of a leading ridge, to a point
40 chains due south of the northern boundary of Section 1,
Block XIII, Swinburn Survey District; thence north-easterly
to and down the middle of a stream and its production to
the middle of the Shag River; thence generally north-easterly
up the middle of that river to its source and along a right
line to the point of commencement.
BOUNDARIES OF PALMERSTON RIDING
ALL that area in the Otago Land District, Waihemo County,
bounded by a line commencing at the south-eastern corner
of Section 1, Block X, Moeraki Survey District, and pro-
ceeding generally northerly along the generally eastern
boundaries of Sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and part
Section 11, and Lot 1, Deposited Plan 8832, Block X, Moe-
raki Survey District, to its north-eastern corner; thence north-
easterly along a right line to the south-eastern corner of
Section 12, Block X, aforesaid, and north-easterly along the
south-eastern boundaries of Sections 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17,
18, and 19, Block X, aforesaid, to a point in line with the
northern side of Burraness Street; thence easterly to and
along the northern side of Burraness Street to a point in line
with the eastern side of Stour Street; thence southerly to and
along the eastern side of Stour Street to the south-western
corner of Section 80, Block X, Moeraki Survey District;
thence westerly along the northern boundaries of Block IV,
Moeraki Survey District, and Block II, Hawksbury Survey
District, to the point of commencement.
