Tariff and Development Board Notice No. 68—New Zealand - Australia Free Trade Agreement
-
In accordance with the intention to take the necessary action, expressed in letters of 31 August 1965, exchanged between the Minister of Overseas Trade and the High Commissioner for Australia in New Zealand in association with the New Zealand - Australia Free Trade Agreement, the Minister has requested the Tariff and Development Board to consider and to report to him on any questions arising from the undertaking to eliminate the margins by which the rates of duty at present applicable to goods imported into New Zealand from Australia exceed those applicable to such goods when imported into New Zealand from any third country or territory other than the Cook Islands and Western Samoa or countries eligible for any concessional Tariff treatment accorded to less developed countries.
-
Notice to this effect was given in the New Zealand Gazette on 25 January 1968, by Tariff and Development Board Notice No. 61, wherein the Board listed the items to be considered initially and invited interested parties to make representations on any item or items affected.
-
The Board has received representations regarding a number of the items listed in notice No. 61, and accordingly proposes to conduct public inquiries on the questions referred to it by the Minister in respect of the goods listed in Schedules A and B of this notice.
-
In the course of such inquiries the Board will have regard to representations made about any of the existing rates of duty on the goods concerned and about import licensing as affecting such goods.
-
For the purpose of taking evidence on these matters, the Board will hold public inquiries in the Boardroom, First Floor, New Zealand Law Society Building, 26 Waring Taylor Street, Wellington, commencing at 10.30 a.m. on the dates shown in the following schedules.
-
Any person who intends to tender evidence should comply with the “Notes for Guidance of Witnesses”, which have been prepared by the Board. A copy of these notes may be obtained from the under-named.
-
Twelve copies of typewritten statements of evidence to be tendered, compiled in accordance with these notes, should be lodged with the under-named not later than the dates shown in the Schedules. Each statement will need to be presented, under oath, at the public inquiry by the person tendering it.
Dated at Wellington this 29th day of August 1968.
P. A. T. ABRAHAM, Secretary,
Tariff and Development Board.
P.O. Box 5070, Wellington.
