Promotion, Extensions of Commissions, Extensions of Commissions and Dates of Retirement, Extensions of Age for Retirement, Transfers, Amendment, Cancellations of Commissions, and Retirements of Officers of the Royal New Zealand Air Force

Pursuant to section 15 of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Act 1950, His Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve the following promotion, extensions of commissions, extensions of commissions and dates of retirement, extensions of age for retirement, transfers, amendment, cancellations of commissions, and retirements of officers of the Royal New Zealand Air Force.

REGULAR AIR FORCE
GENERAL DUTIES BRANCH
Extension of Commission

Flight Lieutenant David Maurice Lyng (71929) is granted an extension of his commission until 23 December 1967, to be followed by four years in the Reserve of Air Force Officers.

Extensions of Commissions and Dates of Retirement

Squadron Leader Roy Runciman Carter (70176) is granted an extension of his commission until 31 March 1968, to be followed by four years in the Reserve of Air Force Officers, and his age for retirement is extended for the period 31 December 1967 to 31 March 1968.

Flight Lieutenant Leonard Varty (81720) is granted an extension of his commission and age for retirement until 31 December 1970, to be followed by four years in the Reserve of Air Force Officers.

Cancellations of Commissions

The short-service commissions of the under-mentioned Acting Pilot Officers are hereby cancelled, with effect from the dates shown:

George Bardia Wright (82888), 11 November 1967.
Stuart Anthony Stones (82976), 22 November 1967.

Amendment

The notice published in the Gazette, 2 November 1967, No. 69, page 1893, relating to Acting Pilot Officer Gordon Lennox Wood (81495) is hereby amended to read “Acting Pilot Officer Gordon Lennox Wood (81495) to be Flying Officer, with effect from 22 September 1967”.

ADMINISTRATIVE AND SUPPLY BRANCH
Transfer

Equipment Division

Pilot Officer Dieter John Woods (82476) is transferred from the General Duties Branch, to the Administrative and Supply Branch (Equipment Division) for a period ending 8 November 1972, to be followed by four years in the Reserve of Air Force Officers, with seniority and effect from 9 November 1967.

The age for retirement of Squadron Leader Laurence Norman Larsen, B.SC. (130738) is extended until 8 July 1968.

Promotion

Pilot Officer Peter Wynn Joll (71944) to be Flying Officer, with effect from 30 January 1967.

Extension of Age for Retirement

The age for retirement of Wing Commander Oliver James O’Brien, A.F.C. (133936), is further extended until 23 August 1968.

Retirements

The under-mentioned officers are retired, with effect from the dates shown:

Wing Commander Ian Reid Salmond, M.A. (130316), 20 December 1967.
Squadron Leader (temp.) Colin Galloway Green, M.SC. (130372), 30 December 1967.

AIR TRAINING CORPS
Extension of Commission

Squadron Leader (temp.) Vernon Leslie Alexander Powell is granted an extension of his commission until 30 November 1970.

Transfer to Retired List

Flight Lieutenant Geoffrey Hampton Thorp, M.AGR.SC., is transferred to the Retired List “B” with effect from 1 January 1968.

Authorisation by the Minister of Defence to the New Zealand Red Cross Society (Incorporated)

Pursuant to the provisions of an Act of the Parliament of New Zealand the short title of which is the Geneva Convention Act 1958, I, David S. Thomson, Minister of Defence, do hereby authorise the use by the New Zealand Red Cross Society (Incorporated), a body politic and corporate duly incorporated under the Incorporated Societies Act 1908, in the following ways but not otherwise of the words “Red Cross”:

(i) As part of the corporate name of the said Society;
(ii) As part of the designation of any qualified nurse for the time being in the employ of the Society;
(iii) As part of the designation of any organisation of young persons promoted by the Society in furtherance of the objects of the Society;
(iv) In conjunction with the emblem of the red cross hereinafter referred to when used in any of the ways hereinafter authorised.

And in further pursuance of the premises do hereby authorise the use by the said Society in the following ways but not otherwise of the heraldic emblem of the Red Cross on a white ground formed by reversing the Federal Colours of Switzerland:

(i) On any letter-paper, envelope, or other stationery or certificate of membership or book or other similar publication used or issued by the Society for the purposes of its undertaking;
(ii) On any leaflet, post board, etc., displayed in support of any fund-raising campaign by the Society provided the whole of the profits thereof be received by and paid to the Society;
(iii) On any objects placed on sale or offered free by the Society provided the emblem is of the smallest possible size or is made of perishable material and there is no possibility that any badge so issued shall imply that the wearer belongs to the Red Cross;
(iv) On any board or flag on a building or office fully occupied by the Society provided that the emblem is of relatively small size and the flag or board is removable;
(v) On any ambulance or other vehicle belonging to or operated by the Society and utilised by its members or employees provided the emblem is small in size and is not shown on a flag;
(vi) On any ambulance not belonging to the Society under the conditions provided in clause (v) above, provided that the Society has the right regularly to control the uses which may thus be made of the emblem;
(vii) On a collar, chest, arm, or shoulder badge or on the headdress to be worn by any active member of the Society when wearing uniform;
(viii) On a button, brooch, pocket badge, or tie to be worn by any active member of the Society when not wearing uniform and by any non-active or auxiliary member, provided that in this circumstance the badge will differ from that of active members and be smaller;
(ix) On any badge, button, or brooch to be worn by members of any organisation of young persons promoted by the Society in furtherance of the objects of the Society;
(x) On any badge granted by the Society for proficiency in nursing, first aid, or in any other matter within the scope of its undertaking;
(xi) On any medals or other testimonies of recognition granted by the Society;
(xii) On any cases or stores the property of and used solely for the purposes of the Society;

And in further pursuance of the premises I do hereby also authorise the use by the said Society in the following ways but not otherwise of the said emblem of the Red Cross during time of peace in connection with the carrying out of any work conducted by the Society with the approval of the Minister of Defence upon any occasion of public emergency recognised as such by the Minister of Defence (hereinafter referred to as “an approved work”).

(xiii) On an armlet to be worn by members and servants of the Society and by other persons trained by the Society when actually engaged in an approved work;
(xiv) On any permanent or temporary building or tent for the time being wholly or partially used by the Society for an approved work;
(xv) On any ambulance or other vehicle or vessel or aeroplane whether the property of the Society or not for the time being used by the Society and solely for the purposes of an approved work;
(xvi) On any cases or stores whether the property of the Society or not for the time being used by the Society and solely for the purposes of an approved work.

Provided that whenever used in any of the ways authorised by clauses (i) to (iii) and (v) to (xii) hereof the said emblem shall be accompanied by the name or initials, as appropriate, of the Society.

Provided also that nothing in the foregoing authorisation shall be deemed to extend to any use of the words “Red Cross” or the said emblem of the Red Cross in military operations during time of war.

Provided also that the foregoing authorisation may at any time be varied or withdrawn by the Minister of Defence.
