β¨ County Council Reorganisation and Spirits Statistics
That, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by section
23 of the Counties Act 1956, the Geraldine County Council
resolves, by way of special order, as follows:
(1) The present division of the County of Geraldine into
three ridings is revoked, and in lieu thereof the said county
shall be divided into six ridings, to be called respectively
Geraldine Riding, Kakahu Riding, Mount Peel Riding,
Rangitata Riding, Temuka Riding, and Waitohi Riding, which
said ridings are respectively described in the Schedule attached
hereto.
(2) The said Geraldine County Council shall consist of nine
members, who shall be elected as follows:
(a) The electors of the Geraldine Riding, Kakahu Riding,
and Temuka Riding shall each elect two Councillors.
(b) The electors of the Mount Peel Riding, Rangitata
Riding, and Waitohi Riding shall each elect one
Councillor.
(3) The alteration hereby made shall take effect on and
after the 12th day of October, 1968.
SCHEDULE
RANGITATA RIDING
All that area in the Geraldine County, Canterbury Land
District, bounded by a line commencing at a point on the
mean high-water mark of the sea in line with the middle of
the Rangitata River and proceeding south-westerly along that
mean high-water mark to the middle of the Orari River;
thence north-westerly generally to and along the middle of
that river to the middle of the South Island Main Trunk Rail-
way; thence north-easterly along that middle line to the
middle of the Rangitata River; thence southerly along the
middle of that river to the point of commencement.
TEMUKA RIDING
All that area in the Geraldine County, Canterbury Land
District, bounded by a line commencing at a point on the
mean high-water mark of the sea in line with the middle of
the Orari River and proceeding south-westerly along that
mean high-water mark to the middle of the Opihi River;
thence north-westerly to and along the middle of that river,
the Temuka River, and Waihi Stream to the middle of No. 72
State Highway; thence north-westerly along the middle of that
State highway to the middle of College Road; thence easterly
along the middle of that road and its production to the
middle of the South Island Main Trunk Railway; thence
northerly along the middle of that railway to the middle of
the Orari River; thence south-easterly along the middle of
that river to the point of commencement, excluding there-
from the Borough of Temuka as described in Gazette, 1899,
page 1513, and amended by Gazette, 1966, page 792.
WAITOHI RIDING
All that area in the Geraldine County, Canterbury Land
District, bounded by a line commencing at the intersection of
the middle of the Temuka River with the middle of the Opihi
River and proceeding westerly generally along the middle of
the latter river to the middle of a public road forming the
north-western boundary of Rural Section 34737, Block III,
Pareora Survey District; thence northerly generally along the
middle of that road, River Road, Gully Bush Road, and Gal-
braith Road to the middle of South Boundary Road; thence
easterly generally along the middle of that road, Goodwin
Road, and Winchester Hanging Rock Road to the middle
of the No. 72 State Highway; thence south-easterly generally
along the middle of that State highway to the middle of the
Waihi Stream; thence southerly generally along the middle
of that stream and the middle of the Temuka River to the
point of commencement.
KAKAHU RIDING
All that area in the Geraldine County, Canterbury Land
District, bounded by a line commencing at the intersection
of the middle of the public road forming the north-western
boundary of Rural Section 34737 and the middle of the
Opihi River (Block III, Pareora Survey District), and pro-
ceeding north-westerly generally along the middle of that
river and the Opuha River to a point in line with the north-
western boundary of Rural Section 36096; thence north-
easterly to and along that boundary and its production across
a public road to the south-western boundary of Section 7A,
Four Peaks Settlement; thence northerly generally along the
general western boundary of that section to Waitohi Saddle;
middle of that road, Goodwin Road, and South Boundary
Road to the middle of Galbraith Road; thence southerly
along the middle of that road, Gully Bush Road, River Road,
and the public road forming the north-western boundary of
Rural Section 34737 to the point of commencement.
GERALDINE RIDING
All that area in the Geraldine County, Canterbury Land
District, bounded by a line commencing at Waitohi Saddle
(Block XIII, Opuha Survey District), and proceeding north-
westerly and north-easterly along the south-western and
north-western boundaries of Section 7A, Four Peaks Settle-
ment, and northerly generally along the western boundary
of Section 26, Tripp Settlement, and its production to the
middle of the Mowbray River; thence south-easterly gener-
ally along the middle of that river to and along the north-
eastern boundary of Section 26, Tripp Settlement, to a point
in line with the north-western boundary of Section 24, Tripp
Settlement; thence north-easterly generally to and along that
boundary, the abutment of a public road, again the north-
western boundary of Section 24 aforesaid and the north-
western boundary of Run 240 to the western boundary of
Rural Section 34447; thence northerly along that boundary
and its production to the middle of Howards Stream; thence
easterly along the middle of that stream to the middle of the
Orari River; thence south-easterly generally along the middle
of that river to the middle of the South Island Main Trunk
Railway; thence south-westerly along the middle of that
railway to a point in line with the middle of College Road;
thence north-westerly to and along the middle of that road
to the middle of the Waihi River; thence northerly generally
along the middle of that river to the middle of Packhams
Road; thence north-westerly along the middle of that road,
Tiplay Road, and Pleasant Valley Road to a point in line
with the southern boundary of Rural Section 31646; thence
westerly to and along that boundary and its production to
the middle of the Hae Hae Te Moana River; thence north-
westerly generally along the middle of that River, Hae Hae
Te Moana River South Branch, and Griffith Stream to the
point of commencement, excluding therefrom the Borough
of Geraldine as described in Gazette, 1953, page 617.
MOUNT PEEL RIDING
All that area in the Geraldine County, Canterbury Land
District, bounded by a line commencing at the intersection
of the middle of Howards Stream with the middle of the
Orari River and proceeding northerly generally along the
middle of that river to a point in line with the southern
boundary of Run 276; thence easterly and north-westerly
generally to and along the southern and north-eastern bound-
aries of that run to the north-eastern corner of Run 2;
thence south-westerly generally along the north-western
boundary of that run to the middle of the Phantom River;
thence to and north-westerly generally along the south-
western boundary of Run 241 and its production to the
middle of Forest Creek; thence south-westerly generally along
the middle of that creek and its production to the summit
of the Two Thumb Range; thence northerly generally along
the summit of that range to the northernmost corner of Run
110B (Block IX, Torlesse Survey District); thence easterly
generally along the northern boundary of that run and the
middle of Forbes River to the middle of the Havelock River;
thence south-easterly along the middle of that river, and the
middle of the Rangitata River to the middle of the South
Island Main Trunk Railway; thence south-westerly generally
along the middle of that railway to the middle of the Orari
River; thence north-westerly along the middle of that river
to the point of commencement.

Return of Spirits Distilled in New Zealand
PURSUANT to section 99 of the Distillation Act 1908,.I hereby
publish the following information concerning spirits distilled
in New Zealand.
(a) Number of imperial gallons of spirits at the strength of
proof distilled in New Zealand received into bonded
warehouses during the year ended 31 December
1967 = 599,697.
(b) Number of imperial gallons of spirits at the strength of
proof cleared and taken out of bonded warehouses
for home consumption = 599,432.
(c) Number of imperial gallons of spirits at the strength of
proof cleared and taken out of bonded warehouses
for exportation = 4,123.
(d) Number of imperial gallons of spirits at the strength of
proof remaining in bonded warehouses on the 31st
day of December 1967 = 142,872.
