ELIZABETH THE SECOND, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith: To our Trusty and Well-beloved Sir Arthur Espie Porritt, Baronet, Knight Grand Cross of Our Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Knight Commander of Our Royal Victorian Order, Commander of Our Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Greeting.
I. We do, by this Our Commission under Our Sign Manual and Signet, appoint you the said Sir Arthur Espie Porritt to be, during Our pleasure, Our Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over New Zealand, with all the powers, rights, privileges and advantages to the said Office belonging or appertaining.
II. And We do hereby authorise, empower, and command you to exercise and perform all and singular the powers and directions contained in certain Letters Patent under the Great Seal bearing date at Westminster the Eleventh day of May, 1917, constituting the said Office of Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief, and in certain other Letters Patent under the Great Seal, bearing date at Westminster the Eighteenth day of December, 1918, amending the same, or in any other Letters Patent adding to, amending, or substituted for the same, according to such Orders and Instructions as the Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief for the time being hath already received, or as you may hereafter receive from Us.
III. And We do hereby appoint that so soon as you shall have taken the prescribed Oaths and have entered upon the duties of your Office, this Our present Commission shall supersede Our Commission under Our Sign Manual and Signet, bearing date the Fifteenth day of October, 1962, appointing Our Trusty and Well-beloved Sir Bernard Edward Fergusson, Knight Grand Cross of Our Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of Our Distinguished Service Order, Officer of Our Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Brigadier on the Retired List of Our Army, to be Our Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over New Zealand.
IV. And We do hereby command all and singular Our Officers, Ministers, and loving subjects in New Zealand, and all others whom it may concern, to take due notice hereof, and to give their ready obedience accordingly.
Given at Our Court at Saint James’s, this Twentieth day of October, 1967, in the Sixteenth Year of Our Reign.
