Tariff Notice No. 1966/38—Review of Former Tariff Concessions

DECISIONS in respect of goods approved by the Minister of Customs under item 448 of the former Tariff, as set out in Schedule I hereto, are to be reviewed.

Persons desiring, or objecting to, the admission of any of these goods under Part II of the Tariff now in force should lodge submissions in writing on or before 2 June 1966.

Submissions, headed “448 Review”, should be prepared separately for each of the decisions listed, and addressed to the Comptroller of Customs, Private Bag, Wellington, supported by information as to:

(a) Full details of composition and nature of the goods;
(b) Purpose for which they are to be used;
(c) Quantity and frequency of importation (in terms of actual annual requirements);
(d) Usual source of supply;

N.B. Where goods are not of Commonwealth origin, information as to availability from Commonwealth sources should be supplied;

(e) Availability (in terms of quantity, range, supply, etc.) of suitably equivalent goods of New Zealand production or manufacture.

Failure to supply information under all or any of the foregoing headings may prejudice consideration of the submissions.

Decisions in respect of goods approved by the Minister of Customs under item 448 of the former Tariff, as set out in Schedule II hereto, are revoked with effect from 2 June 1966. (The rates of duty for these goods under Part I of the Tariff now in force are the same or lower than the rates under item 448 of the former Tariff.)

SCHEDULE I

Quilts—
The under-mentioned goods when declared by a manufacturer for use by him in making quilts

Artificial silk piece goods
Quilted piece goods, being backed and embroidered textiles
Satins, cotton backed

Reagents for concentration of minerals by the flotation process (SPECIFIC ITEMS WITH CHEMICAL FORMULA MUST BE SHOWN ON APPLICATIONS)

Record blanks on declaration by a manufacturer that they will be used by him solely for making master discs

Refrigerators—
Condenser coils in the flat and without attachments, made from Bundy tubing
Evaporator plates of brass in the flat, brazed but not tinned or otherwise worked, on declaration by a manufacturer for use by him only in making evaporators for use in refrigerators
Evaporator plates roll bonded, in the flat, inflated but not further worked, on declaration by a manufacturer for use by him only in making evaporators for use in domestic type refrigerators
Gasketing, plastic, containing a magnetised plastic strip, a sponge rubber strip or a fibre glass filling, declared by a manufacturer for use by him only in making refrigerators
Motor compressors declared by a manufacturer for use by him only in making refrigerator units of the hermetically sealed type
Motor compressors, hermetically sealed and semi-sealed, on declaration by a manufacturer for use by him only in making refrigerated cooling systems for milk
Refrigerator units of the heat absorption type on declaration by a manufacturer that they will be used by him only in the manufacture of refrigerators

Alkyl methacrylate esters
Butyl acrylate
1:3 Butylene glycol (1:3 butanediol) declared by a manufacturer for use by him only in making synthetic resins
Chemicals specially suited for use as catalysts, hardeners, accelerators, plasticisers, or stabilisers, in the manufacture of plastic materials or for use as hardeners with synthetic resin adhesives (SPECIFIC ITEMS WITH CHEMICAL FORMULA MUST BE SHOWN ON APPLICATIONS)
2-Ethyl hexanol declared by a manufacturer for use by him only in making synthetic resins
2-Ethyl hexyl acrylate
