Price Orders and Appointments




Any person wishing to lodge an objection to the granting of these applications should do so in writing on or before 25 February 1965.
Submissions should include a reference to the application number, Tariff item, and description of goods concerned, be addressed to the
Comptroller of Customs, Private Bag, Wellington, and supported by information as to:

(a) The range of equivalent goods manufactured locally;
(b) The proportions of New Zealand and imported materials used in manufacture;
(c) Present and potential output; and
(d) Details of factory cost in terms of materials, labour, overhead, etc.

Price Order No. 1969 (Bananas)

PURSUANT to the Control of Prices Act 1947, I, Alfred Gaynor Beadle, pursuant to a delegation from the Secretary of Industries and Commerce acting under a delegation from the Price Tribunal, hereby make the following price order:

  1. This order may be cited as Price Order No. 1969 and shall come into force on the 8th day of February 1965.

  2. (1) Price Order No. 1955* is hereby revoked.
    (2) The revocation of the said order shall not affect the liability of any person for any offence in relation thereto committed before the coming into force of this order.
    (3) References in this order to metropolitan areas are references to the metropolitan areas described in the Schedule hereto.

Application of this Order

  1. This order applies with respect to all bananas sold by way of retail in New Zealand.

Fixing Maximum Retail Prices of Bananas

  1. (1) The maximum price that may be charged or received by any retailer for any bananas to which this order applies shall be determined as follows:

(a) When sold by a retailer carrying on business in any of the metropolitan areas of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, or Dunedin, or in any of the Cities or Boroughs of Whangarei, Takapuna, Hamilton, Tauranga, Rotorua, Gisborne, New Plymouth, Stratford, Wanganui, Palmerston North, Napier, Hastings, Blenheim, Nelson, Greymouth, Timaru, Westport, Oamaru, Balclutha, Gore, or Invercargill—

1s. 2d. per pound.

(b) With respect to bananas sold elsewhere in New Zealand, at the rate of 1s. 2½d. per pound.

(2) If in respect of any lot of bananas the price calculated in accordance with the foregoing provisions of this clause is not an exact number of pence or halfpence, the maximum price of the lot shall be computed to the next upward half-penny.

Provisions for Special Prices

  1. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in the foregoing provisions of this order, and subject to such conditions, if any, as it thinks fit, the Tribunal, on application by any retailer, may authorise special maximum prices in respect of any bananas to which this order applies where special circumstances exist, or for any reason extraordinary charges (freight or otherwise) are incurred by the retailer. Any authority given by the Tribunal under this clause may apply with respect to a specified lot or consignment of bananas, or may relate generally to all bananas to which this order applies sold by the retailer while the approval remains in force.

Duty Imposed on Retailers

  1. Every retailer who offers or exposes for sale in any shop any bananas to which this order applies shall keep in a prominent position in such proximity to the bananas to which it relates as to be obviously in relation thereto a ticket, placard, or label on which shall be stated in legible and prominent characters the retail price per pound of the bananas.

Approval of Red Reflectors for Motor Vehicles in Terms of the Traffic Regulations 1956

PURSUANT to clause (2) of regulation 41 of the Traffic Regulations 1956,* the Commissioner of Transport hereby approves for the purposes of the said regulations red reflectors of the makes and types described in the Schedule hereto.

Schedule

TAIL-LAMP assemblies incorporating red reflectors fitted as standard equipment to Chevrolet motor vehicles and marked "Guide 15 SAE STD B 65".
Tail-lamp assemblies incorporating red reflectors fitted as standard equipment to Pontiac motor vehicles and marked "Guide 25 SAE STD B 65".
Tail-lamp assemblies incorporating red reflectors fitted as standard equipment to Holden motor vehicles and marked "Holden S5/R5 Reflex Reflector".

Approval of Safety Belts for Motor Vehicles

PURSUANT to regulation 49 (1) of the Traffic Regulations 1956,* the Commissioner of Transport hereby approves the seat belts set out in the schedule hereto for the purposes of regulation 51B (1) of the said regulations.

Schedule

BRITAX Automatic Safety Belts manufactured by John Edward Butler Ltd., Auckland.
Seat belts assembled by Simons Metal Products Ltd., Lower Hutt, incorporating the Brooks Automatic Reel and the Simon-Brooks or Simplex-Brooks buckle.
