Tariff Notice No. 1965/62—Review of Former Tariff Concessions

DECISIONS in respect of goods approved by the Minister of Customs under item 448 of the former Tariff, as set out in Schedule I hereto, are to be reviewed.

Persons desiring, or objecting to the admission of any of these goods under Part II of the Tariff now in force should lodge submissions in writing on or before 19 August 1965.

Submissions, headed “448 Review”, should be prepared separately for each of the decisions listed, and addressed to the Comptroller of Customs, Private Bag, Wellington, supported by information as to:

(a) Full details of composition and nature of the goods;
(b) Purpose for which they are to be used;
(c) Quantity and frequency of importation (in terms of actual annual requirements);
(d) Usual source of supply;
(N.B. Where goods are not of Commonwealth origin, information as to availability from Commonwealth sources should be supplied);
(e) Availability (in terms of quantity, range, supply, etc.) of suitably equivalent goods of New Zealand production or manufacture.

Failure to supply information under all or any of the foregoing headings may prejudice consideration of the submissions.

Decisions in respect of goods approved by the Minister of Customs under item 448 of the former Tariff, as set out in Schedule II hereto, are revoked with effect from 19 August 1965. (The rates of duty for these goods under Part I of the Tariff now in force are the same or lower than the rates under item 448 of the former Tariff.)

Faspos fireproofing agents Nos. 1, 2, and 3

Fasteners for boxes—

Corrugated steel in lengths for use in automatic box fastening machines

Metal fasteners for making cardboard boxes

Fenders, firescreens, kerbs, coal vases, and similar articles—

Stampings in the rough, of brass or copper

Stampings in the rough, of iron or tinned iron

Filtercloth, press cloth, and hair matting, in the piece, made from human hair, camel hair, goat hair, or horse hair, and weighing not less than 5 lb per sq. yd., for use in industrial separation and filter processes

Filter press cloth of wool, in the piece, being a thick loosely woven material suited for making filter bags for use in stearine or similar filter presses

The under-mentioned materials and parts specially manufactured for use in flying machines and on declaration (a) by a manufacturer, or (b) by a responsible official of a flying club or air transport company that they will be used only in flying machines, or (c) by individuals, firms, or companies, that they have been authorised and approved by the Controller of Civil Aviation to issue release notes in respect of these aircraft materials or parts and that such goods will be sold to aircraft manufacturers, owners, or operators to be used only on flying machines—
