Tariff and Development Board Notice No. 19—Public Inquiry Into Hire Purchase and Credit Trading
-
The Tariff and Development Board has been requested by the Minister of Industries and Commerce to examine and report on the commercial, economic, and social implications of hire purchase and credit transactions and practices in New Zealand.
-
For the purpose of taking evidence on this subject, the Board will hold a public inquiry, commencing on Tuesday, 23 June 1964, at 10.30 a.m., in the Chamber of Commerce Meeting Rooms, Eighth Floor, Commerce House, 126 Wakefield Street, Wellington.
-
Any person interested or who intends to tender evidence may obtain a copy of the full terms of reference from the under-named.
-
Witnesses should prepare their evidence in the form of a typewritten statement, of which 12 copies should be furnished to the Board. These statements should be lodged with the under-named not later than 9 June 1964.
-
Each statement will need to be presented under oath at the public inquiry by the person tendering it. A witness may be questioned on his evidence by the Board, or with the permission of the Board, by or on behalf of any other witness.
-
If a witness regards any particulars as confidential, he should embody them in a separate statement clearly marked “Confidential” and furnish eight copies to the Board when furnishing his statement of public evidence. The Board’s view is, however, that as much of the evidence as possible should be included in the statement of public evidence, and that only those particulars, the making public of which would be clearly detrimental to the interests of the party represented, should be embodied in the confidential statement. The decision as to whether evidence shall be admitted as confidential will rest with the Board.
-
It would be of assistance to the Board if persons who intend to tender evidence would advise the under-named to that effect as early as possible, and, if practicable, by 31 March 1964.
Dated at Wellington this 4th day of March 1964.
N. V. FARRANT,
Secretary, Tariff and Development Board.
P.O. Box 5070, Wellington.
