Assumption of the Office of Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief of New Zealand by Brigadier Sir Bernard Edward Fergusson

A PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was graciously pleased, by a Commission passed under the Royal Sign Manual and Signet, bearing date at Saint James’s the 15th day of October 1962, to appoint me, Sir Bernard Edward Fergusson, to be Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over New Zealand:

Now, therefore, I, the Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief aforesaid, hereby proclaim and declare that I have this day taken the prescribed oaths before the Right Honourable Sir Harold Eric Barrowclough, Chief Justice of New Zealand, and that I have assumed the said office of Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over New Zealand under and by virtue of Her Majesty’s said Commission.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir Bernard Edward Fergusson, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Distinguished Service Order, Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Brigadier on the Retired List of Her Majesty’s Army, Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over New Zealand; and issued under the Seal of New Zealand, this 9th day of November 1962.
