Timber Preservation Regulations 1955—Branding and Identification of Preservative Treated Timber

PURSUANT to regulation 12 of the Timber Preservation Regulations 1955,* notice is hereby given that, subject to the exemptions provided herein, timber which has been preservative treated as provided in the said regulations shall be branded or identified in the manner herein described.

  1. All preservative treated timber shall be branded unless specifically provided otherwise on or at one end with a clearly legible brand in block letters not less than ³⁄₈ in. high. The brand shall include the registered number of the plant allocated by the Timber Preservation Authority. Timbers exempt from this requirement are:
    (a) Fence battens or droppers.
    (b) Timber in sizes less than 2 in. by 1 in. section.

  2. In the case of timber treated by the pressure method with water-borne preservatives to comply with T.P.A. Specification No. III (Ground Contact use) an additional brand in the form of an “X” is to be placed immediately after the plant number.

  3. Each piece of timber treated with a colourless preservative shall have its surfaces completely coloured by a red dye or other approved colouring material added to the treating solution.

  4. (a) All weatherboards and flooring shall be continuously branded preferably on the back of the board.
    (b) All scantlings and treated timber which is subsequently dressed or planer gauged on at least one face shall be continuously branded on at least one face.
    (c) All other finishing lines shall either be continuously branded or branded within 6 in. of the end.
    (d) All posts, poles, and piles shall be branded with an incised brand on one end at least.
    (e) All continuous branding shall be incised or printed with an approved permanent ink and shall be in block letters not less than ³⁄₈ in. high embodying the word treated, together with, as a minimum, the approved number or the approved trade name and may include the type of treatment as a prefix and other information.

The provisions of (a) and (b) take effect on 1 July 1963, meanwhile such produce is to be branded in accordance with (c).

The previous notice published in the Gazette, 2 October 1958, is hereby revoked.

Releasing Land from the Provisions of Part XXIV of the Maori Affairs Act 1953 (Homewood Development Scheme)

PURSUANT to section 332 of the Maori Affairs Act 1953, the Board of Maori Affairs hereby declares that on the date of the publication of this notice in the Gazette the land described in the Schedule hereto shall cease to be subject to the provisions of Part XXIV of the Maori Affairs Act 1953, the said land being so subject by virtue of a notice dated 27 January 1948 and published in the Gazette, 29 January 1948, Volume I, page 126.

Releasing Land from the Provisions of Part XXIV of the Maori Affairs Act 1953 (Omaio Development Scheme)

PURSUANT to section 332 of the Maori Affairs Act 1953, the Board of Maori Affairs hereby declares that on the date of the publication of this notice in the Gazette the land described in the Schedule hereto shall cease to be subject to the provisions of Part XXIV of the Maori Affairs Act 1953, the said land being so subject by virtue of a notice dated 2 December 1931 and published in the Gazette, 17 December 1931, Volume III, page 3507.
