Notice of Intention to Assign Place Names by the New Zealand Geographic Board

Pursuant to section 12 of the New Zealand Geographic Board Act 1946, notice is hereby given of the intention of the New Zealand Geographic Board to assign the names set out in the Schedule hereto.

Pursuant to section 13 of the said Act, any person objecting to any such proposed name may, at any time within the period of three months from the date of publication of this notice in the Gazette, give to the Secretary of the Board, care of the Department of Lands and Survey, P.O. Box 8003, Government Buildings, Wellington, notice in writing of his objection, setting out the grounds of the objection.

If no objection is received by the Board within the aforesaid period of three months, the Board's decision as to any of the said proposed names will be final.

NORTH AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT

Tomarata (locality)

Situation and Remarks
Block V, Pakiri Survey District. North-east of Wellsford. Instead of Tomorata.

SOUTH AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT

Volkner Islets

Bay of Plenty. Three miles north-west of White Island. Geographical reference: Latitude 37° 28′ 45″ south. Longitude 177° 08′ 10″ east. Instead of Valkners Islets.

TARANAKI LAND DISTRICT

Otatu Maori Block

Block III, Carlyle Survey District. Instead of Otauto.

WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT

Cape Pattisson

Block I, Tawirikoko Survey District, Chatham Islands. Instead of Cape Pattison.

MARLBOROUGH LAND DISTRICT

Doctors Creek

Rises south-west of Blenheim and flows generally north-easterly and easterly to join Taylor River at a point approximately in line with George Street, Blenheim.

Taylor River

Rises south of Blenheim and flows generally northerly; thence easterly through the Borough of Blenheim to join the Opawa River near the wharves. The lower part of this river is at present shown on maps as Omaka River.

Yelverton Stream

Rises east of Woodbourne and flows generally easterly to join Doctors Creek near the junction of that creek with Taylor River. Formerly part of Omaka River.

NELSON LAND DISTRICT

Cupola Creek

Nelson Lakes National Park, Block XV, Arnaud Survey District. Drains area between Mounts Cupola and Hopeless and flows into Travers River.

Lake Angelus

Nelson Lakes National Park, Block VII, Arnaud Survey District. Approximately 120 chains north of Angelus Peak. Previously gazetted as Rangimarie Tarn.

Shift Creek

Nelson Lakes National Park, Block VIII, Arnaud Survey District. Rises on Travers Range about 2 miles north-east of Lake Angelus and flows south-easterly generally into Travers River. Previously gazetted as Ngaro Stream.

Summit Creek

Nelson Lakes National Park, Block XVII, Arnaud Survey District. Tributary of Travers River. Drains northern slopes of Mount Travers.

OTAGO LAND DISTRICT

Taylor Point

Block I, Lower Harbour West Survey District. In Otago Harbour between Waipuna Bay and Dowling Bay. Instead of Taylor Point.

Humboldt Creek

Fiordland National Park. Flows into Hollyford River from just north of Erebus Peak, Humboldt Mountains. At present known as High Falls Creek.

Humboldt Falls

Fiordland National Park. On Humboldt Creek. At present known as High Falls.

SOUTHLAND LAND DISTRICT

Rocky Bay

Campbell Island. On the south-western coast, south-west of Menhir Peak. Geographical reference to approximate middle point of bay. Latitude 52° 34′ south. Longitude 169° 02′ east.
