Notice of Final Decision of New Zealand Geographic Board re Assigning of Place Names
WHEREAS, pursuant to section 12 of the New Zealand Geographic Board Act 1946, notice was given on the 1st day of October 1959 of the intention of the New Zealand Geographic Board to assign the names set out in the Schedule attached to the said notice:
And whereas, pursuant to section 13 of the said Act, no objections have been received to such of the proposed names as are set out in the Schedule hereto:
Now, therefore, pursuant to sections 14 and 15 of the said Act, notice is hereby given that the names set out in the Schedule hereto are final decisions of the Board and that such decisions will take effect on the first day of March 1960.

NORTH AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT List No. 21
Name Situation and Remarks
Drury Creek .. .. Blocks III and IV, Drury Survey District. Tidal estuary extending from the bridge on the Great South Road over Slippery Creek to Pahurehure Inlet.
Hays Stream .. .. Block IV, Drury Survey District, and Block I, Opaheke Survey District. Flows westerly from Block I to join Slippery Creek about half a mile west of Opaheke Railway Station.
Hingaia Stream .. .. Flows north-westerly through Blocks VIII and IV, Drury Survey District, into the eastern end of Drury Creek.
Maketu Stream .. .. Block V, Opaheke Survey District, and Block VIII, Drury Survey District. Flows south-westerly through Block V; thence north-westerly through Block VIII into Hingaia Stream.
Massey .. .. Locality in Block XIV, Waitemata Survey District. Three miles north-west of Henderson. At present known as Massey-Birdwood.
Ngakoroa Stream .. .. Flows northerly through Blocks VIII and IV, Drury Survey District, into the eastern end of Drury Creek. Instead of Ngakorua.
Waihoihoi Stream .. .. Block IV, Drury Survey District. Flows north-westerly to join Slippery Creek about 500 yd above the Great South Road. Bridge.
Kaiwhiri .. .. Trig. Station in Block III, Kaiwaka Survey District. Instead of Whawanui.
Parewanui .. .. Trig. Station in Block XIV, Rangitoto Survey District. Instead of Parawanui.
Parewanui .. .. Maori Block in Block XIV, Rangitoto Survey District. Instead of Parawanui.
Tokomaru .. .. Maori Block in Blocks V and VI, Waipakura Survey District. Instead of Tokamaru.
WESTLAND LAND DISTRICT
Hochstetter Dome .. .. On the main divide at head of Tasman Glacier. Between Elie de Beaumont Peak and Mount Aylmer. Instead of Hochstetter Dom.
Moncrieff Col .. .. On the main divide in Mount Aspiring region. Half a mile east of Aeroplane Peak.
CANTEBURY LAND DISTRICT
Aviemore .. .. Proposed hydro-electric dam and power station on the Waitaki River, approximately 1 mile above Lake Waitaki.
Hochstetter Dome .. .. On the main divide at head of Tasman Glacier. Between Elie de Beaumont Peak and Mount Aylmer. Instead of Hochstetter Dom.
Kaiapoi River .. .. Blocks XV and XVI, Rangiora Survey District. Tributary of the Waimakariri River flowing south-easterly through the Borough of Kaiapoi and including the stream now know as the North Branch Waimakariri River.
OTAGO LAND DISTRICT
Aviemore .. .. Proposed hydro-electric dam and power station on the Waitaki River, approximately 1 mile above Lake Waitaki.
Moncrieff Col .. .. On the main divide in Mount Aspiring region. Half a mile east of Aeroplane Peak.
SOUTHLAND LAND DISTRICT
Crayfish Creek .. .. Fiordland National Park. Rises south of Crayfish Heights and flows south-westerly into Thompson Sound.
Dark Cloud Range .. .. Fiordland National Park. Extending south-westerly from Mount Solitary near the head of Dusky Sound to Treble Mountain between Cunaris Sound and Preservation Inlet.
Juno River .. .. Fiordland National Park. Flows down long, deep valley between Caswell and Charles Sounds.
Kathryn Peak .. .. Fiordland National Park. Two miles north of Seaview Peak, between Lake Hauroko and Dusky Sound, 4,684 ft.
Namu River .. .. Fiordland National Park. Drains area between Mount Napier and Dunsterville Peak and flows into Open Cove, Thompson Sound.
Newton River .. .. Fiordland National Park. Half a mile south of West Cape, between Dusky Sound and Chalky Inlet.
Observation Rock .. .. Fiordland National Park. Approximately 100 chains east of Hamley Peak, 3,800 ft.
Pandora River .. .. Fiordland National Park. Drains area north of Hamley Peak and Observation Rock and flows north-westerly between Dunsterville Peak and Crayfish Heights into Thompson Sound.
NOTE—All names of alpine features are approved subject to their identification on maps
