the south Tasman Sea, and when this crossed Southland and Otago from the 3rd to the 5th some rain fell in all districts. Floods were reported in parts of Southland and the rain was also heavy in Westland.
The second depression persisted for some time to the south-east, and another depression over the north Tasman Sea moved across the North Island from the 6th to the 8th. Temperatures became much cooler, with winds from a southerly quarter, and rain affected not only the North Island but also Marlborough, Banks Peninsula, and Southland. For the next two days pressures remained low to the south-east, and south-westerlies brought rain to Southland, Westland, Taranaki, and the greater part of the Auckland Province. The weather improved in most districts as an anticyclone moved on to the South Island. However, on the 11th and 12th a small depression crossed Northland, with rain there and also in Gisborne and Wairarapa.
Further rain was received in Northland with the approach of a depression across the Tasman Sea, and the rain became more or less general as the depression crossed the South Island from the 14th to the 16th. However, the weather remained fair in Southland and it cleared rapidly in Central Otago and on the West Coast. Snow was reported on the high country of the North Island.
Pressures rose rapidly over the eastern Tasman Sea and the South Island, but the depression persisted to the east, drifting slowly north-eastward from the Chatham Islands. Winds turned to south-easterlies, with rain at first affecting mainly Canterbury, the Kaikoura coast, and the southern half of the North Island. The weather soon cleared in Canterbury and from Manawatu to Taranaki but showery conditions persisted on the Kaikoura coast and about Cook Strait until the 20th and in the Gisborne district until the 22nd.
The anticyclone proved as slow moving as the previous depression had been, and it remained to the east for the rest of the month, with a ridge of high pressure extending over New Zealand. For most of the country there was a spell of settled weather, in some districts commencing as far back as the 17th. However, depressions passing to the north caused unsettled conditions at times in Northland, Bay of Plenty, and Gisborne; while depressions passing to the south-west caused rain at times in Fiordland and South Westland.

PURSUANT to section 146 of the Land Act 1948, notice is hereby given that the Land Settlement Board, with the approval of the Minister of Lands, has by resolution declared the under-mentioned lease forfeited, and that the land is thereby reverted to the Crown.
