said Mangaone Stream and to lay, construct, put up, place,
and use the electrical lines described in the First Schedule
hereto.

The conditions directed to be implied in all licences by
the Water Power Regulations 1934 and the Electrical Supply
Regulations 1935 shall be incorporated herein and shall form
part of this licence, except in so far as they may be incon-
sistent with the provisions of this licence. -
This licence is issued under the Water Power Regulations
1934, and is subject thereto, and to the Electrical Supply
Regulations 1935, the Electrical Wiring Regulations 1935, the
Radio Interference Regulations 1958, and to all Regulations
made in amendment thereof or in substitution therefor,
except in so far as they may be inconsistent with the pro-
visions of this licence. -
Water shall be taken as aforesaid from:
(a) The Makotuku Stream at a point in or adjoining Sections
9 or 14, Block III, Makotuku Survey District.
(b) The Makara Stream at a point in Section 3, Block III,
Makotuku Survey District.
(c) The Makaraiti Stream at a point in Section 8, Block III,
Mokotuku Survey District.
(d) The Orautoha Stream at a point in Section 12, Block
XV, Manganui Survey District.
(e) The Mangaone Stream at a point in Section 8, Block II,
Makotuku Survey District.
(f) An unnamed stream, being a tributary of the Mangaone
Stream, in Section 9, Block II, Makotuku Survey
District.
All as indicated on the plan marked N.Z.E.D. 505 deposited
in the office of the New Zealand Electricity Department at
Wellington.

The licensee is hereby authorised, subject to the conditions
hereof, to construct, maintain, and use the works described
in the Second Schedule hereto, the positions of the said
works being indicated on the said plan N.Z.E.D. 505. -
The systems of supply shall be as described in paragraphs
(a), (b), (c), (d), (e), (f), and (h) of regulation 21-01 of
the Electrical Supply Regulations 1935. -
For the purpose of assessing the rental or annual sum
payable in respect of this licence, the maximum generating
capacity of the plant at the commencement of this licence is
376 kilowatts. -
Nothing in this licence shall of itself be deemed to
confer upon the licensee any right to water. -
This licence shall, unless sooner lawfully determined,
continue in force until the 31st day of March 1980. -
The Orders in Council specified in the Third Schedule
hereto authorising the licensee to use water for the purpose
of generating electricity and to erect and use electric lines are
hereby revoked.
FIRST SCHEDULE
ELECTRIC LINES
LINES for the transmission and supply of electrical energy
within the Borough of Raetihi and part of the Waimarino
County, being Blocks X, XIII, XIV, XV, and XVI, Manganui
Survey District, and Blocks I, II, V, VI, VII, IX, X, XI, XIII,
XIV, XV, XVI, and portions of Blocks III, IV, VIII, and
XII, Makotuku Survey District. As the said area is more par-
ticularly delineated on the plan marked N.Z.E.D. 504
deposited in the office of the New Zealand Electricity Depart-
ment at Wellington, and thereon outlined in red.
SECOND SCHEDULE
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF GENERATING WORKS
(a) Headworks, consisting of dams, weirs, and necessary
intakes on the Makotuku, Makara, and Makaraiti Streams,
and on an unnamed tributary of the Mangaone Stream.
(b) Water races connecting the said intakes leading in a
westerly direction and discharging into a forebay.
(c) A low pressure 24 in. pipeline leading from the said
forebay to a surge chamber and a high pressure 21 in. pipe-
line leading thence to the powerhouse hereinafter mentioned
giving a static head of 380 feet.
(d) A powerhouse with Pelton Wheels and all necessary
equipment for generating electricity.
(e) A tail race leading from the powerhouse aforesaid to
the Orautoha Stream.
(f) A diversion weir and tunnel in Section 6, Block II,
Makotuku Survey District, between the Orautoha and Maka-
raiti Streams.

February 1959
Present:
THE RIGHT HON. W. NASH PRESIDING IN COUNCIL
PURSUANT to the Public Works Act 1928 and the Electric
Power Boards Act 1925, His Excellency the Governor-
General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the
Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.
LICENCE
-
This order may be cited as the Horowhenua Electric
Power Board Electric Lines Licence 1959. -
Subject to the conditions hereinafter set forth, the Horo-
whenua Electric Power Board (hereinafter referred to as the
licensee) is hereby authorised to lay, construct, put up, place,
and use electric lines, and to construct electric works within
the area of supply described in the Schedule hereto. -
The conditions directed to be implied in all licences by
the Electrical Supply Regulations 1935 and the Electrical
Wiring Regulations 1935 shall be incorporated herein and
shall form part of this licence, except in so far as they may
be inconsistent with the provisions of this licence. -
The licence hereby conferred is subject to compliance
by the licensee with the Electrical Supply Regulations 1935,
the Electrical Wiring Regulations 1935, the Radio Inter-
ference Regulations 1958, and with all regulations made in
amendment thereof or in substitution therefor, except in so
far as they may be inconsistent with the provisions of this
licence: Provided that the licensee shall not by virtue of this
clause be required, except in the normal course of alteration,
repair, or maintenance, to reconstruct in conformity with the
regulations hereinbefore mentioned, any existing electric line
or work which conformed to the regulations in force at the
time of the construction thereof, and has not become a
hazardous line as described in the Electrical Supply Regula-
tions 1935. -
The systems of supply shall be as described in paragraphs
(a), (b), (c), (d), (e), (f), and (h) of regulation 21-01
of the Electrical Supply Regulations 1935. -
This licence shall, unless it is sooner lawfully determined,
continue in force until the 4th day of December 1964. -
The Order in Council dated the 4th day of December
1922 and published in the Gazette on the 7th day of the same
month authorising the licensee to use electric lines is hereby
revoked.

AREA OF SUPPLY
THE Horowhenua Electric Power District, as defined in the
Schedule to the Proclamation dated the 29th day of November
1921, and published in the Gazette on the 1st day of
December 1921.
