—
CITIZENS and traffic-control authorities throughout New Zealand are requested to observe Remembrance Day on Sunday, 8 November 1959. In future this day will be observed on the second Sunday of November of each year.
The observance of this day should be similar to that of Remembrance Day last year. Two minutes’ silence to be observed from 11 a.m. and all vehicular traffic to halt during that period.
The New Zealand Government trusts that churches will agree to arrange, as far as practicable, for a morning service on this day to commence at such time as to enable two minutes’ silence to be observed at 11 o’clock.
Where a citizens’ memorial service is held, it is suggested that it should be at the local cenotaph or war memorial, as the case may be.
