developed, this time over Taranaki, and for three days the southerlies brought rain mainly to the central districts. Snow was reported from Central Otago and the Canterbury high country. On the 15th and 16th pressures still remained low east of the North Island, and showers affected the Auckland Province and eastern districts from Masterton to Invercargill.

The anticyclone which had been stationary over south-eastern Australia now moved into the south Tasman Sea, with an extension to Campbell Island, and a depression developed near North Cape. From the 17th to the 20th winds were south-easterlies, with further rain in eastern districts, including eastern Northland. Snow was reported again in the South Island high country.

On the 21st the weather was temporarily fair over most of the country under the influence of a ridge of high pressure. However, rain had already set in on the West Coast with the approach of a vigorous trough of low pressure over the Tasman Sea. On the following day the weather deteriorated generally as the trough and a small depression crossed the country. Strong gales caused some damage in Taranaki. An anticyclone was once again stationary over south-eastern Australia. For the remainder of the month pressures were low to the south and south-east. Very cold south-westerlies brought showers to many districts, with unusually heavy snow in Southland and on the North Island high country. Gales affected many parts of the North Island on the 27th and 28th.
