Boundaries of County of Masterton, and Opaki, Rangitumau, Upper Taueru, Castlepoint, Uriti, Wainuioru, and Te Whiti Ridings of County of Masterton Defined

PURSUANT to section 16 of the Counties Act 1956, the Secretary for Internal Affairs hereby defines, as set out in the Schedule hereto, the boundaries of the County of Masterton, and the Opaki, Rangitumau, Upper Taueru, Castlepoint, Uriti, Wainuioru, and Te Whiti Ridings of the County of Masterton as constituted by Order in Council made on 3 March 1958, and published in Gazette, 6 March 1958, No. 16, page 294.

SCHEDULE

BOUNDARIES OF COUNTY OF MASTER TON

ALL that area in the Wellington Land District bounded by a line commencing at a point in the middle of the mouth of the Mataikona River; thence south-westerly along the sea coast to a point in the middle of the mouth of the Kaiwhata River; thence westerly generally up the middle of that river to a point in line with the eastern boundary of Section 5, Block IV, Kaiwhata Survey District; thence to and along the eastern boundaries of Sections 5, 7, 9, Block IV, Kaiwhata Survey District, and the northern boundary of Section 9 aforesaid and its production to the middle of the Kaiwhata River; thence southerly generally down the middle of that river to a point due east of the northernmost corner of Small Grazing Run 50; thence westerly along a right line to that corner, and westerly generally along the south-eastern and southern boundaries of Small Grazing Run 49, and the south-eastern boundaries of Sections 1 and 2, Block IV, Wainuioru Survey District, and the production of the last-mentioned boundary to the middle of the Kuamahanga Stream; thence north-westerly down the middle of that stream and the Wainuioru River to a point in line with the south-eastern boundary of Section 79, Tupurupuru Block; thence north-easterly to and along that boundary and the south-eastern boundary of Section 76, Tupurupuru Block, to its easternmost corner; thence north-westerly along the north-eastern boundaries of Sections 76, 77, 62, and 54, Tupurupuru Block, to the north-western boundary of Section 1, Block XIV, Otahoua Survey District; thence north-easterly generally along that north-western boundary, the western boundaries of Lots 3 and 2, D.P. 1569, the north-western boundaries of Lot 1, D.P. 1569, and the land shown on D.P. A/2011, the western boundaries of Sections 3 and 2, Block XI, Otahoua Survey District, the south-western and north-western boundaries of that piece of land shown as containing 18 acres 2 roods and 3 perches on D.P. A/2492, to the middle of Pohatu Stream and down the middle of that stream to its confluence with the Taueru River; thence south-westerly generally down the middle of that river and north-westerly generally up the middle of the Ruamahanga and Waingawa Rivers to the northernmost source of the Waingawa River; thence due west along a right line to the summit of the Tararua Range; thence northerly along the summit of the range to Mt. Dundas, and a right line in the direction of Arawaru Trigonometrical Station to a point bearing 297° from Tawhero Trigonometrical Station; thence south-easterly along a right line to Tawhero Trigonometrical Station and along the summit of the Tawhero Range to the north-western boundary of Section 9, Block IV, Mikimiki Survey District; thence south-westerly along that boundary and its production to the middle of the Ruamahanga River; thence south-easterly generally down the middle of that river to a point in line with the north-western boundary of Section 71, Opaki Block, situated in Block VIII, Mikimiki Survey District; thence easterly generally to and along that boundary, the north-eastern and south-eastern boundaries of that section, the north-eastern boundary of Section 32, Opaki Block, the northern boundary of Section 69, Opaki Block, the western and northern boundaries of Section 27, Block V, Kopuaranga Survey District, the production of the last-mentioned boundary across Jacksons Road, along the eastern side of that road to and along the northern boundary of Section 70, Opaki Block, across a public road and again along that northern boundary and its production to the middle of the Kopuaranga River, up the middle of that river to a point in line with the northern boundary of Section 51, Rangitumau Block to and along that boundary and the northern boundaries of Sections 97, 98, and 99, Block V, Kopuaranga Survey District, the western boundary of Section 43, Block VI, Kopuaranga Survey District, the western and northern boundaries of Section 44, Block II, Kopuaranga Survey District, the production of the last-mentioned boundary across Stuckey Road to its eastern side, southerly along that roadside to and along the northern and eastern boundaries of Section 42, Block VI aforesaid, the northern boundary of Section 52, Block VI aforesaid, and its production across Whangaehu Valley Road to its eastern side, along that roadside to and along the northern boundary of Section 113, Rangitumau Block, the western and north-eastern boundaries of Section 114, Rangitumau Block, part of the north-eastern boundary of Section 210, Rangitumau Block, to and along the eastern boundary of part Section 118, Rangitumau Block, as shown on D.P. A/345, the production of the last-mentioned boundary to the north-eastern side of Cleland Road, north-westerly along that road to the western boundary of Section 112, along that boundary and the western and northern boundary of Section 111, Rangitumau Block, and its production across Mangarai Road, to and along the north-eastern boundary of Section 211, Rangitumau Block, to the eastern corner of that section; thence north-easterly generally along the western boundaries of Sections 141 and 140, the south-eastern, south-western, and north-western boundaries of Section 19, Rangitumau Block, the north-western and north-eastern boundaries of Section 20, the north-western boundaries of Sections 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25, the north-eastern boundaries of Sections 25 and 26, all of Rangitumau Block, to the eastern corner of the said Section 26, and along a right line across Section 151, Rangitumau Block, to the northern corner of Section 148, Whareama Block; thence southerly generally along the north-western boundary of that section and part Section 149, Whareama Block, and along the south-western boundary of that section and its production across Wingate Road to the middle of the Taueru River; thence northerly up the middle of that river to a point in line with the north-eastern boundary of Section 824, Whareama Block; thence easterly generally to and along that boundary the western and north-western boundaries of Lot 1, D.P. 9604, the western boundary of Section 16, Block XVI, Puketoi Survey District, the western, southern, and south-eastern boundaries of Section 10, Block XVI aforesaid, across a public road, to and along the south-eastern boundary of Section 33, Block XVI aforesaid, the generally southern and eastern boundaries of Section 27, Block XVI aforesaid, and the production of the last-mentioned boundary to the middle of the Pakowhai River, down the middle of that river and the Mataikona River to the sea coast; being the point of commencement, and excluding therefrom the Borough of Masterton as described in Gazette 1951, at page 235.

BOUNDARIES OF OPAKI RIDING

All that portion of the Masterton County bounded by a line commencing at a point in the middle of the Kopuaranga River, in line with the southern boundary of Section 51, Rangitumau Block, the said point being on the boundary of the Masterton County hereinbefore described; thence easterly to and along that southern boundary and southerly generally along the north-western boundary of Section 88, the north-western and south-western boundaries of Section 86, the south-western boundaries of Section 84, all of Block V, Kopuaranga Survey District, and the south-western and south-eastern boundaries of Section 82, Block IX, Kopuaranga Survey District, to the north-western corner of Lot 5, D.P. 16469, along the western and north-western boundaries of that lot and the production of the last-mentioned boundary to the middle of the Kopuaranga River, down the middle of that river to a point in line with the north-western boundary of Section 20, Rangitumau Block, to and along that boundary and its production to the middle of the Ruamahanga River and down the middle of that river to the middle of the Masterton-Castlepoint Main Highway; thence westerly along the middle of that highway and Te Ore Ore Road to a point in line with the western side of Columba Road; thence northerly along the production of that western side to the northern side of Te Ore Ore Road; thence easterly and north-easterly along the said northern side of Te Ore Ore Road and the north-western side of Gordon Street to the easternmost corner of Section 73, Masterton Small Farms Settlement; thence westerly generally along the northern boundaries of that section, and Section 72, Masterton Small Farms Settlement, to and along the eastern side of Manuka Street, to a point in line with the northern side of Fifth Street, to and along that side of Fifth Street, to the eastern side of the Woodville-Masterton State Highway; thence southerly along that side of the said highway to a point 200 links north of the production of the northern boundary of Section 63, Masterton Small Farms Settlement; thence westerly along a right line parallel with and distant 200 links from the said northern boundary of Section 63 aforesaid to a point 500 links distant from the western side of the aforesaid highway; thence southerly along a right line parallel with and 500 links west of the western side of the aforesaid highway to the northern boundary of Section 63 aforesaid; thence westerly along that boundary to and along the south-eastern side of the Wellington-Napier Railway, to and up the right bank of the Waipoua River to a point in line with the north-western boundary of Section 31, Masterton Small Farms Settlement; thence south-westerly along a right line in the direction of the intersection of the centre line of the road passing through Lot 1, D.P. 4017, with the centre line of Ngaumutawa Road, to the south-western side of Akura Road; thence north-westerly along the side of Akura Road to the north-western side of Ngaumutawa Road; thence south-westerly along that side of Ngaumutawa Road to the easternmost corner of the land comprised in C.T. Volume 326, folio 124; along the north-eastern and north-western boundaries of that land, along the north-eastern boundaries of Lots 4, 3, 2, and 1, D.P. 5504, the north-western boundary of Lot 1 aforesaid, and its production to the middle of Upper Plain Road, along the middle of that road to a point in line with the north-western side of Railway Road, to and along that side of Railway Road to the north-eastern side of West Bush Road; thence southerly along a right line to the intersection of the middle lines of West Bush Road and Railway Road and along a right line in the direction of the intersection of the middle lines of High Street and Solway Street to the north-western boundary of the Wellington-Napier Railway; thence south-westerly along that side of the said railway to and along the northern boundaries or Sections 49 and 50, Manaia Block, the western boundary of the said Section 50, across the Wellington-Napier Railway, again along the western boundary of the said Section 50, and its production to the middle of the Waingawa River, being a point on the boundary of the Masterton County hereinbefore described; thence north-westerly, north-easterly, and south-easterly generally along those boundaries to the point of commencement.
