Boundaries of County of Golden Bay and Pakawau, Aorere, Anotoki, Takaka, and Waitapu Ridings of the County of Golden Bay Defined
Pursuant to section 16 of the Counties Act 1956, the Secretary for Internal Affairs hereby defines as set out in the Schedule hereto the boundaries of the County of Golden Bay and the Pakawau, Aorere, Anotoki, Takaka, and Waitapu Ridings of the County of Golden Bay as constituted by Order in Council made on 8 October 1956, and published in Gazette, 11 October 1956, No. 55, page 1386.
SCHEDULE
BOUNDARIES OF COUNTY OF GOLDEN BAY
All that area in the Nelson Land District bounded by a line commencing in the middle of the mouth of the Kahurangi River, and proceeding generally north-easterly, south-westerly, and south-easterly along the sea coast of Tasman Sea, Golden Bay, and Tasman Bay, crossing the mouths of all rivers and inlets to a point at the northern head of Torrent Bay in line with the southern boundary of Section 5, Block X, Totaranui Survey District; thence due west along a right line to a point on the Pikikiruna Range on the western boundary of Section 1, Block XI, Totaranui Survey District; thence south-westerly generally along the summit of the said Pikikiruna Range and Arthur Range passing through Hoary Head, Crusader, Lodestone, and Flora Saddle to Mount Arthur; thence north-westerly generally along the summit of Peel Range passing through Gordon’s Pyramid, Tableland, Balloon Hill, Mount Peel, Ranolf, Aorere Peak, and Mount Domett; thence north-easterly generally along the summit of the Tasman Mountains passing through Muriel and Flanagan to Mount Goulard; thence north-westerly generally along the summit of the north-eastern watershed of the Heaphy River to the source of the northern branch of the Kahurangi River in Block VI, Kahurangi Survey District; thence down the middle of the said north branch and the Kahurangi River to the point of commencement.
BOUNDARIES OF PAKAWAU RIDING
All that area in Golden Bay County bounded by a line commencing at a point on the sea coast of Tasman Sea at the north-western corner of part Section 1, Square 17. (Lighthouse Reserve), situated in Block V, Wakamarama Survey District; thence north-easterly along the sea coast of Tasman Sea to South Head Cone on the southern side of the mouth of Whanganui Inlet; thence south-easterly, south-westerly, northeasterly, and north-westerly generally along the shores of Whanganui Inlet to Bar Point on the northern side of the mouth of Whanganui Inlet; thence north-easterly and south-westerly along the shores of Tasman Sea and Golden Bay to the middle of the mouth of the Aorere River; thence westerly generally along the middle of the Aorere River and the Oti-Mataura Creek to the north-western boundary of Section 5, Block XIII, Pakawau Survey District; thence north-easterly along that boundary to its northernmost corner; thence north-westerly generally along the southern side of a public road to the southern boundary of Section 3, Block IX, Pakawau Survey District, and along that boundary to Trig. K (Knuckle Hill); thence south-westerly and north-westerly along the south-eastern and south-western boundaries of part Section 1, Square 17, to the southernmost corner of part Section 1, Square 17 (Lighthouse Reserve); thence north-westerly along the south-western boundary of the last-mentioned section to the point of commencement.
BOUNDARIES OF AORERE RIDING
All that area in Golden Bay County bounded by a line commencing at Trig. K (Knuckle Hill), in Block IX, Pakawau Survey District, and proceeding generally south-easterly along part of the south-western boundary of Pakawau Riding hereinbefore described to the boundary of the Golden Bay County hereinbefore described at the mouth of the Aorere River; thence southerly along that boundary to a point in the middle of the mouth of the Pariwhakaoho River; thence south-westerly along a right line to the junction of the Haupiri and Hardy Ranges; thence south-westerly generally along the summit of the Hardy and Douglas Ranges to Kakapo Peak, and along the summit of the watershed between the Cobb and the Aorere Rivers to a point on the Peel Range situated in Block XIV, Waingaro Survey District, on the south-western boundary of the Golden Bay County; thence north-westerly generally along the said county boundary to the Pakawau Riding boundary hereinbefore described; thence south-easterly and north-easterly generally along the south-western and south-eastern boundaries of the said Pakawau Riding to the point of commencement.
BOUNDARIES OF ANOTOKI RIDING
All that area in Golden Bay County bounded by a line commencing at a point in the middle of the mouth of the Pariwhakaoho River being a point on the north-eastern boundary of Golden Bay County hereinbefore described; and proceeding south-easterly generally along that boundary to the right bank of the Takaka River; thence southerly along that bank to a point in line with the north-eastern side of a public road forming the south-western boundary of Section 116, Takaka District, situated in Block III, Takaka Survey District;
thence south-easterly to and along that side to the western side of the Lindsays-Clifton Main Highway; thence northerly along the western side of the last-mentioned highway to a point in line with the south-eastern boundary of Section 18, Square 11, situated in Block X, Waitapu Survey District; thence south-easterly to and along that boundary and the south-eastern boundary of Section 114, Square 11, and the last-mentioned boundary produced to the middle of Rameka Creek; thence south-easterly along the middle of Rameka Creek to its source and along a right line to the south-western corner of Section 1, Block VIII, Totaranui Survey District; thence easterly along the southern boundary of the said Section 1 and that boundary produced across a public road to its eastern side; thence southerly along the eastern side of the said road and the western boundary of Section 1, Block XI, Totaranui Survey District, to a point on the Pikikiruna Range on the southern boundary of the Golden Bay County; thence south-westerly and north-westerly generally along the boundary of Golden Bay County to the south-eastern boundary of the Aorere Riding in Block XIV, Waingaro Survey District; thence north-easterly generally along the south-eastern boundary of the Aorere Riding hereinbefore described to the point of commencement.
BOUNDARIES OF TAKAKA RIDING
All that area in Golden Bay County bounded by a line commencing at the confluence of the eastern bank of the Te Kakau River with the right bank of the Takaka River; and proceeding northerly along the eastern bank of the said Te Kakau River to the south-eastern boundary of part Section 17, Takaka District; thence north-easterly along the south-eastern boundary of that section to the Richmond-Collingwood State Highway, along a right line to the westernmost corner of Section 1 of 12, Takaka District, and along the north-western boundary of that section to its northernmost corner; thence south-easterly along the south-western boundary of Section 11, Takaka District, to its southernmost corner; thence north-easterly along the south-eastern boundary of that section to the westernmost corner of Section 3 of 10, Takaka District; thence south-easterly along the south-western boundary of the said Section 3 of 10 to its southernmost corner; thence south-westerly along the south-eastern boundary of Section 1 of 10, Takaka District, to the westernmost corner of Section 6 of 9, Takaka District; thence south-easterly along the south-western boundary of that section to the Takaka-Tarakohe Main Highway; thence south-westerly along the northern side of the said highway to a point in line with the south-western boundary of part Section 3 of 9, Takaka District, as shown on plan 985/B1; thence south-easterly along a right line to and along that south-western boundary to the Motupipi River; thence south-westerly generally along the northern bank of that river to the Takaka River; thence north-westerly along the right bank of the Takaka River to the point of commencement.
BOUNDARIES OF WAITAPU RIDING
All that area in Golden Bay County bounded by a line commencing at the intersection of the right bank of the Takaka River with the north-eastern boundary of the Golden Bay County hereinbefore described, and proceeding south-easterly and westerly along that boundary to the north-eastern boundary of the Anotoki Riding hereinbefore described; thence north-westerly along that boundary to the south-eastern boundary of the Takaka Riding hereinbefore described; thence north-easterly, north-westerly, south-westerly, and southerly along the south-eastern, north-eastern, north-western, and western boundaries of that riding to the north-eastern boundary of the Anotoki Riding; thence north-westerly along that boundary to the point of commencement.
