Assumption of the Office of Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief of New Zealand by the Right Honourable Viscount Cobham

A PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was graciously pleased, by a Commission passed under the Royal Sign Manual and Signet, bearing date at Saint James’s the 9th day of August 1957, to appoint me, Charles John, Viscount Cobham, to be Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over New Zealand:

Now, therefore, I, the Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief aforesaid, hereby proclaim and declare that I have this day taken the prescribed oaths before the Right Honourable Sir Harold Eric Barrowclough, Chief Justice of New Zealand, and that I have assumed the said office of Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over New Zealand under and by virtue of Her Majesty’s said Commission.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable Charles John, Viscount Cobham, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, upon whom has been conferred the Territorial Decoration, Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over New Zealand; and is ued under the Seal of New Zealand, this 5th day of September 1957.
