Boundaries of Borough of Kawerau, County of Whakatane, and Matata Riding of County of Whakatane Defined
Pursuant to section 26 of the Municipal Corporations Act 1954, the Secretary for Internal Affairs hereby defines as set out in the Schedule hereto the boundaries of the Borough of Kawerau, the County of Whakatane, and the Matata Riding of the County of Whakatane, the previous boundaries having been altered by Order in Council made on 14 March 1956, and published in Gazette, 15 March 1956, No. 15, page 339.
SCHEDULE
BOUNDARIES OF BOROUGH OF KAWERAU
All that area of approximately 1,718 acres in the South Auckland Land District bounded by a line commencing at a point on the present position of the right bank of the Tarawera River as defined on D.P. S. 2476, in line with the southern boundary of Section 12, Block IX, Rangitaiki Upper Survey District, and running easterly along a right line to and along that southern boundary and the southern boundary of Section 23, Block IX aforesaid, crossing two intervening public roads, to the north-western corner of Allotment 59B 2D 3, Matata Parish; thence south-westerly generally along the western boundary of that Allotment 59B 2D 3, to and along a right line parallel to and distant 5 chains in a south-easterly direction from the south-eastern side of an area of 12 acres 2 roods 37·1 perches, shown on M.L. Plan 16450 as to be taken for road, and known as part of Fenton's Mill Road, to and along the south-eastern boundary of that part of Allotment 59B 2D 4 of the said parish taken for the development of water power (Kawerau Substation) by Proclamation published in Gazette, No. 72, of the 17th day of December 1953, page 2013, and shown on S.O. Plan 36416, to the southernmost corner of that part of Allotment 59B 2D 4 aforesaid; thence still south-westerly along another right line to the angle opposite peg VIII on M.L. Plan 15902, being a point on the south-eastern side of an area of 11 acres 1 rood 24·6 perches, shown on M.L. Plan 16450, aforesaid, as to be taken for road, and along the south-eastern sides of that area and of an area of 2 roods 30 perches and the south-eastern and southern sides of an area of 10 perches, all the aforesaid areas being known as part of the aforesaid Fenton's Mill Road and being shown on M.L. Plan 16450 as to be taken for road, to and along the northern boundary of part Allotment 59B 2A, Matata Parish aforesaid, and along a right line being that last-mentioned boundary produced across the Tarawera River to the present position of its left bank as defined on S.O. Plan 36540; thence southerly up that left bank to and along the southern boundary of Allotment 315 of the said parish, to the south-western corner of that allotment; thence north-westerly along a right line to a point bearing 221° 24' 40" distant 161·5 links from iron pipe marked XX on S.O. Plan 33006; thence northerly along the western side of the road as proposed by the taking of an area of 11 acres 2 roods 22·8 perches as shown on S.O. Plan 33006 aforesaid, crossing and recrossing the existing public road in this vicinity, to a point 6 chains distant on a bearing of 166° 01' from peg XXIVA as shown on S.O. Plan 33006 aforesaid; thence easterly along a right line bearing 76° 01' to and along the generally northern side of the area of 4 acres 3 roods 5·4 perches shown on S.O. Plan 37842 as to be taken for road, to the north-western corner of Allotment 315, Matata Parish aforesaid; thence north-easterly along a right line to a point on the southern boundary of part Allotment 39A 2B of the aforesaid parish, shown as O.P.V. on M.L. Plan 14554 (1), and along that southern boundary and its production across the Tarawera River to and down the present position of the right bank of that river as defined on D.P. S. 2476 aforementioned, to the point of commencement.
BOUNDARIES OF COUNTY OF WHAKATANE
All that area in the South Auckland and Gisborne Land Districts bounded by a line commencing at a point in Block IV, Waihi South Survey District, on the shores of the Bay of Plenty, being the north-eastern corner of Waewaehikitia No. 1 Block, and running south-easterly generally along the said shores to the eastern extremity of the Ohope Land Spit, being a point on the western shores of the entrance to Ohiwa Harbour; thence due south along a right line for a distance of 500 links; thence due south-west along a right line to the intersection with another right line from the southern extremity of Allotment 249, Waimana Parish (Ohakana Island), and passing through a point 100 links due north of the northern extremity of Allotment 284, Waimana Parish (Uretara Island); thence westerly generally along the last-mentioned right line to the southern extremity of Allotment 249 aforesaid, and along a right line to a point 1000 links distant from and due west of the northern extremity of Allotment 127, Waimana Parish (Whitiwhiti Point); thence along another right line to a point being the intersection of the line of mean high water along the shores of the Ohiwa Harbour aforesaid with the northern boundary of that part of Lot 2, D.P. 12843, being part Allotment 245 of the said parish, bounded on the south-west by Wainui Road, and along that northern boundary and a right line being that boundary produced across Wainui Road to its western side; thence southerly generally along the western and south-western sides of that road to the junction with the western side of the Whakatane-Opotiki State Highway at the north-eastern corner of
Allotment 183A, Waimana Parish, and along the western side of that State highway and the western side of Bell Road to the south-eastern corner of Allotment 223, Waimana Parish aforesaid; thence easterly along a right line across the said State highway, to and along the southern boundaries of Allotments 268 and 269, Waiotahi Parish, to the south-eastern corner of the last-mentioned allotment; thence along a right line to and along the north-eastern and south-eastern boundaries of part Section 6 and the south-eastern boundary of Section 5, both of Block IV, Waimana Survey District, to and along the south-eastern boundaries of Waimana Nos. 1c 1B, 1c 1c 2, 1c 1c 3; 1c 1c 4A, 1c 1c 4B 3, 1D 2B 1B, part 1D 2D 1, another part 1D 2D 1, 1D 2D 2, 1D 3, part 1D 5A, and 1D 5B Blocks to Trig. Station D, Paitaua, in Block VIII, Waimana Survey District; thence north-westerly along the south-western boundary of the aforesaid No. 1D 5B Block to the middle of the Waimana River; thence again southerly generally up the middle of the said river to and up the middle of the Tauranga River to a point being the intersection near the source of that river with a right line from Maungatapere Trig. Station to Maungapohatu Trig. Station; thence south-westerly generally along a right line to the last-mentioned Trig. Station; thence south-easterly generally along a right line running in the direction of Puketapu Trig. Station to a point in line with the north-western boundary line of the Waipaoa Block; thence south-westerly along a right line to and along the north-western boundaries of the last-mentioned block and a forest reserve, and southerly along the western boundary of the said forest reserve to its intersection with a right line running between Puketapu Trig. Station aforesaid, and the most northern point of Lake Waikaremoana; thence south-westerly along the last-mentioned line to the said northern corner of Lake Waikaremoana aforesaid; thence along a right line passing through a point in Block X, Tuwatawata Survey District, 180 chains due north of Maungatanuiwha Trig. Station, to the intersection of the said line with a right line running from Trig. Station, 69, Tataroakino, in Block VIII, Tarawera Survey District (Hawke's Bay Land District), to Trig. Station 76A, Tawhiwhau, in Block XIV, Galatea Survey District; thence along a right line to Te Taumutu Trig. Station in Block XVI, Heruiwi Survey District; thence along a right line to Pukeroa Trig. Station in Block XI of the aforesaid Heruiwi Survey District; thence northerly along a right line to Trig. Station F, Tiritiri, in Block III, Heruiwi Survey District, aforesaid; thence along a right line to Trig. Station No. 76, Taupiri, in Block XII, Wheao Survey District; thence along a right line to Trig. Station No. 78, Pekepeke, in Block III, Wheao Survey District; thence along a right line to a point being the intersection of a right line between Trig. Station 31, Paeroa in Block V, Paeroa Survey District, and Trig. Station 76A, Tawhiuwahu, aforesaid, with the production of a right line between Trig. Station 18, Maungawhakamana, in Block III, Ruawahia Survey District, and Trig. Station 38, Ahiwhakamura, in Block X, Kaingaroa Survey District; thence along the last-mentioned right line to Maungawhakamana Trig. Station aforesaid, in Block III, Ruawahia Survey District; thence along a right line to the south-western corner of part Allotment 63, Matata Parish; thence along the western boundaries of part Allotment 63, aforesaid, and part Section 15 of Block XI, Rotoma Survey District, to its north-western corner; thence along a right line to and along the eastern boundary of Section 6, Block VI, Waihi South Survey District, to and along the eastern boundary of Tahunaroa No. 3A Block, to and along the eastern boundaries of part Lot 10 and Lots 11, part 13, 14, and 15, D.P. 8636, being parts Tahunaroa No. 2 Block, along the eastern boundary of Lots 6, 4, and 2, D.P. 35929, being parts Tahunaroa No. 2 Block aforesaid, along the eastern boundaries of part Lot 1, D.P. 8636, crossing the Paeroa-Whakatane State Highway, and along a right line across a public road to and along the eastern boundaries of Waewaehikitia Nos. 3, 2A, and 2B Blocks, the eastern boundary of an Urupa, and along a right line across the East Coast Main Trunk Railway, to and along the eastern boundary of Waewaehikitia No. 1 Block, aforementioned, to the point of commencement; excluding therefrom the Borough of Whakatane as described in Gazette, No. 52, of the 10th day of August 1950, page 1566, the Borough of Kawerau as hereinbefore described, and the Town District of Murupara as described in Gazette, No. 79, of the 16th day of December 1954, page 2032.
BOUNDARIES OF MATATA RIDING OF COUNTY OF WHAKATANE
All that area in the South Auckland Land District, Whakatane County, bounded by a line commencing at the southern-most corner of part Allotment 63, Matata Parish, in Block XV, Rotoma Survey District, being a point on the boundary of the County of Whakatane hereinbefore described, and proceeding northerly and south-easterly along that boundary to the left bank of the Tarawera River diversion; thence southerly generally up that left bank and up the left bank of the Tarawera River to the northern boundary of the Borough of Kawerau hereinbefore described; thence south-westerly and south-easterly along the north-western and south-western boundaries of that borough to the left bank of the Tarawera River; thence southerly up that left bank to the southern boundary of Allotment 39, Matata Parish; thence westerly along that boundary and the southern boundary of part Allotment 63, Matata Parish, to the point of commencement.
