Appointments, Confirmation of Appointment, Promotions, Extensions of Commissions, Transfers, and Termination of Commission of Officers of the Royal New Zealand Air Force

PURSUANT to section 15 of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Act 1950, His Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve the following appointments, confirmation of appointment, promotions, extensions of commissions, transfers, and termination of commission of officers of the Royal New Zealand Air Force.

REGULAR AIR FORCE

GENERAL DUTIES BRANCH

Extensions of Commissions

Flight Lieutenant Thomas Joseph DANAHER (77763) is granted an extension of his present commission from 30 August 1956 until 17 August 1966 inclusive.

Flight Lieutenant Bernard Joseph O’CONNOR (814234) is granted an extension of his present commission from 7 March 1957 to 31 March 1958 inclusive.

Amendment

The seniority of Pilot Officer Ian Russell McCulloch NESS (797090) is to date from 27 April 1955 instead of 24 August 1955.

TECHNICAL BRANCH

Appointments

Signals Division

Squadron Leader Francis Maitland Bissett GEORGE, M.B.E. (70236), is granted a permanent commission with his present rank and seniority. Dated 15 May 1956.

Armament Division

Sergeant James William BORLASE (72786) is granted a permanent commission in the Technical Branch (Armament Division), Regular Air Force, with the rank of Pilot Officer and with seniority as from date of appointment, with effect from 18 June 1956.

Extensions of Commissions

Special Duties Division

The under-mentioned officers are granted extensions of their present commissions for a period of one year, with effect from the dates shown:

WOMEN’S ROYAL NEW ZEALAND AIR FORCE

REGULAR SECTION

Appointments

The under-mentioned airwomen are granted temporary commissions in the Women’s Royal New Zealand Air Force for a period of three years with the rank of Assistant Section Officer, and with seniority as from date of appointment, with effect from 18 June 1956:

AIR TRAINING CORPS

Appointment

David Frank SAGE, M.A., is appointed to a commission in the Air Training Corps with the rank of Flying Officer and with seniority as from 25 February 1956. Dated 25 June 1956.

RESERVE OF AIR FORCE OFFICERS

Promotions

Flight Lieutenant (temp.) Allen Frank PAPESCH, B.SC. (134001), to be temporary Squadron Leader while attached to the Air Training Corps, with effect from 28 June 1956.

Pilot Officer Norman Lodge KNOWLES (133774) to be temporary Flying Officer, with effect from 14 April 1956.

Transfers

Group Captain Donald William BAIRD, A.F.C., p.s.a. (70008), is transferred from the General Duties Branch, Regular Air Force, to the Reserve of Air Force Officers for a period of four years, with effect from 21 August 1956.

Flying Officer John Francis Tovey HENLEY (76717) is transferred from the General Duties Branch, Regular Air Force, to the Reserve of Air Force Officers for a period of four years, with effect from 24 June 1956.

Flying Officer Andrew Sword SCOTT, B.A. (131849), is transferred from the Education Branch, Regular Air Force, to the Reserve of Air Force Officers for a period of four years, with effect from 18 September 1954.

Confirmation of Appointment, Promotion, and Transfer

Acting Pilot Officer Ivor Francis JOSEPH, M.B., CH.B. (133914), is confirmed in his appointment and granted the rank of Pilot Officer, with effect from 31 May 1956. He is promoted to the rank of Flying Officer and transferred from the Administrative and Supply Branch (Special Duties Division) to the Medical Branch, both with effect from 1 June 1956.

Transfer to Retired List

Flight Lieutenant Ronald Foster WELLS (70208) is transferred to the Retired List “A”, with effect from 10 September 1956.

Termination of Commission

The commission of Flying Officer Bruce William O’CONNOR (130906) is terminated, with effect from 20 June 1956.

PURSUANT to section 5 of the Police Force Act 1947, His Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to appoint

PURSUANT to subsection (2) of section 3 of the Veterinary Services Act 1946, His Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to appoint—

(a) Robert Thomas Scott, Esquire (as a representative of the New Zealand Government);

(b) Athol G. Wood, Esquire (as a representative of farmers’ veterinary clubs and associations and other like bodies);

(c) Andrew Linton, Esquire, C.B.E. (as a representative of the New Zealand Dairy Board); and

(d) Frederick Campbell Johnstone, Esquire (as the representative of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board),

to be members of the Veterinary Services Council established under the said Act for a term of three years from the 1st day of August 1956.
