Weather Report and Land Vesting

23 FEB.

A trough of low pressure which moved on to the country
on the 25th soon became stationary through Cook Strait,
causing intermittent rain for three days in central districts.
On the 28th the trough commenced to move northward, but
at the same time a tropical cyclone was approaching across
the Tasman Sea. A complex depression resulted which
crossed the country during the next two days, bringing
general rain. In many parts of Canterbury and Otago this
was the first substantial rainfall for almost two months.
North-westerly gales caused some damage in Manawatu and
about Cook Strait. By the 31st the winds had changed to
south-westerlies and temperatures were much cooler. Some
showers persisted in Gisborne and Hawke's Bay, but elsewhere
the weather was fine.
