Price Order No. 1592 (Tea)

Pursuant to the Control of Prices Act 1947, the Price Tribunal hereby makes the following Price Order:

PRELIMINARY

  1. This Order may be cited as Price Order No. 1592, and shall come into force on the 28th day of January 1955.

  2. Exempted Goods (Control of Prices) Notice 1950 No. 12,* and also Exempted Goods and Services (Control of Prices) Notice 1953 No. 1†, are hereby revoked to the extent to which the said notices apply with respect to tea, except china tea.

APPLICATION OF THIS ORDER

  1. This Order applies to all tea sold by a packer, a blender, a wholesaler, or a retailer, but does not apply to china tea or to tea sold as part of a meal.

FIXING MAXIMUM PRICES OF TEA TO WHICH THIS ORDER APPLIES

  1. (1) The maximum price that may be charged or received for any tea to which this Order applies shall be the price operating on the 26th day of January 1955 or at the last sale prior to that date, but shall not in any case exceed the following maximum prices:

(a) On sales by a packer or blender to a wholesaler, 7s. 5d. per pound.

(b) On sales by a wholesaler to a retailer, 7s. 9d. per pound.

(c) On sales by a retailer to a consumer, 8s. 6d. per pound.

(2) The price at which any lot of tea is sold shall be calculated in respect of the particular lot sold.

(3) If the price authorized by this Order for any lot of tea is not an exact number of half-pence the price may be calculated to the next upward halfpenny.

PROVISION FOR APPROVAL OF SPECIAL PRICES

  1. Notwithstanding anything in the foregoing provisions of this Order, and subject to such conditions, if any, as it thinks fit, the Tribunal, on application by any packer, blender, wholesaler, or retailer, may authorize special maximum prices in respect of any tea to which this Order applies: provided the Tribunal is satisfied that any increased costs to the packer, blender, wholesaler, or retailer making such application warrants such special maximum prices. Any authority given by the Tribunal under this clause may apply with respect to a specified lot or consignment of tea or may relate generally to all tea sold by the packer, blender, wholesaler, or retailer while the approval remains in force.

Dated at Wellington this 28th day of January 1955.

The Seal of the Price Tribunal was affixed hereto in the presence of—

[L.S.] D. J. DALGLISH (Judge), President.
G. LAURENCE, Member.
