IT is hereby notified that Her Majesty the Queen has been pleased to approve of the retention of the title of “Honourable” by the Hon. Sir Arthur Fair, M.C., lately a Judge of the Supreme Court of New Zealand.

Time and Place of Election by Fire Insurance Companies to Fill an Extraordinary Vacancy on the Fire Board for the North Shore Fire District

PURSUANT to the Fire Services Act 1949, the Minister of Internal Affairs hereby appoints 12 noon, Thursday, the 18th day of August 1955, as the time and the offices of the Fire and Accident Underwriters’ Association, Victoria Arcade, Auckland, as the place for the holding of a meeting of representatives of the insurance companies carrying on fire insurance business in New Zealand to elect a member to the Fire Board for the North Shore Urban Fire District.

Arbor Day 1955

IT is hereby notified that Wednesday, 3 August 1955, is to be observed as Arbor Day, and in view of the national importance of tree planting, local bodies throughout New Zealand are requested to organize suitable celebrations on that date.

Where, on account of local climatic conditions in any district, the 3rd day of August is deemed unsuitable the local bodies affected are invited to observe some other suitable day in the month.

Import Control Exemption Notice (No. 4) 1955

PURSUANT to regulation 15 of the Import Control Regulations 1938,* the Minister of Customs hereby gives notice as follows:

  1. (1) This notice may be cited as the Import Control Exemption Notice (No. 4) 1955.

(2) This notice shall come into force on the 29th day of July 1955.

  1. (1) This notice applies to goods of the classes which, by virtue of notices given under the said regulation 15, are at the commencement of this notice exempt from the requirement of a licence under the said regulations when imported from and being the produce or manufacture of any country, being a country that is not specified in the Schedule hereto.

(2) Goods of the classes to which this notice applies are hereby exempted from the requirement of a licence under the said regulations when imported from and being the produce or manufacture of any country specified in the Schedule hereto.

Albania, Argentina, Bulgaria, French Somaliland, Germany (Russian Zone), Hungary, Iran, Poland, Roumania, Tangier, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

Import Control Exemption Notice (No. 5) 1955

PURSUANT to regulation 15 of the Import Control Regulations 1938,* the Minister of Customs hereby gives notice as follows:

  1. (1) This notice may be cited as the Import Control Exemption Notice (No. 5) 1955.

(2) This notice shall come into force on the 29th day of July 1955.

  1. Goods of the classes specified in the First Schedule hereto, imported from and being the produce or manufacture of any country other than the countries specified in the Second Schedule hereto, are hereby exempted from the requirement of a licence under the said regulations.

(Amends decision in Gazette No. 78 of 21 December 1950.)
NOTE.—This decision has the effect of adding to the exemption loudspeakers specially suited for outdoor use and other loudspeakers except those from 3 in. to 12 in. diameter, and of excluding from the exemption base stations for mobile radio telephone sets.
