Board of Trade Notice No. 109—Public Inquiry into Import Duties on Disinfectants, Weed and Scrub Killing Preparations, Insecticides, and Fungicides and Materials Therefor

  1. (a) The Board of Trade proposes to inquire into and report upon the question of what rates of import duty should be imposed under the tariff items listed hereunder:

Tariff Item 104: Whole item.
Tariff Item 119: Whole item.
Tariff Item 126: Whole item.

(b) The Board will also inquire into and report upon what rates of import duty should be imposed on the following goods which are for the time being classified under Tariff Items 05 (1), 105 (3), 121 (1), 124 (8), 394 (9), 394 (10), 448 (3), or any other tariff item:

(i) Manufactured disinfectants, sheep dip, weed and scrub killing preparations, insecticides, and fungicides.
(ii) Any materials for the manufacture of such products.
(c) Persons interested may obtain from the office of any Collector of Customs details of the goods admitted under these tariff items, and of the rates of import duty applicable thereto.

  1. During the course of this inquiry the Board will consider the desirability of reclassifying the goods in question for the purposes of the Customs Tariff. In addition, the Board will consider whether such of the goods in question as are now subject to import licensing should be exempted from the requirements of import licensing, and in respect of such of the goods in question as are already exempt whether import licensing should be imposed in respect of any of them.

  2. For the purpose of taking evidence on the review of these tariff items, the Board will hold a public inquiry commencing on 27 September 1955, at 10.30 a.m., in the Board Room, First Floor, Departmental Building, Stout Street, Wellington.

  3. Any person who intends to tender evidence may obtain from the office of any Collector of Customs or from the undersigned the notes for the guidance of witnesses (2nd Edition) which have been approved by the Board.

  4. A typewritten statement of the evidence to be tendered should be lodged with the undersigned on or before 13 September 1955. Each statement will in general need to be presented under oath at the public inquiry by the person tendering it.

Dated at Wellington this 14th day of June 1955.
