Appointments, Promotions, Transfers, Resignations, and
Retirements of Officers of the New Zealand Army

PURSUANT to section 16 of the New Zealand Army Act
1950, His Excellency the Governor-General has been
pleased to approve of the following appointments, promotions,
transfers, resignations, and retirements of officers of the New
Zealand Army:

HEADQUARTERS 1ST INFANTRY BRIGADE

Captain R. A. Wright, The Auckland Regiment (Countess of
Ranfurly’s Own), relinquishes the appointment of G.S.O. 3,
Headquarters, 1st Infantry Brigade, and ceases to be seconded.
Dated 1 April 1955.

Lieutenant A. P. M. Williams, The Auckland Regiment
(Countess of Ranfurly’s Own), is appointed G.S.O. 3, Head-
quarters, 1st Infantry Brigade, and is seconded. Dated 1
April 1955.

THE ROYAL N.Z. ARTILLERY

Regular Force

Major R. J. H. Webb is appointed C.O., 3rd Field Regiment,
R.N.Z.A., in addition to his present appointment of G.S.O. 2,
Headquarters, Southern Military District. Dated 1 April
1955.

Captain (temp. Major) R. H. Dyson, E.D., relinquishes the
appointment of C.O., 6th Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment,
R.N.Z.A. Dated 31 March 1955.

Captain C. B. Conmey is seconded to the Fiji Military
Forces. Dated 15 April 1955.

Territorial Force

2nd Field Regiment, R.N.Z.A.

Lieutenant-Colonel W. D. Philp, O.B.E., D.S.O., E.D., relinquishes
the appointment of C.O., 2nd Field Regiment, R.N.Z.A.,
and is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, General List,
The Royal N.Z. Artillery, with the rank of Lieutenant-
Colonel. Dated 31 March 1955.

Major E. H. Carew, E.D., is appointed C.O., 2nd Field
Regiment, R.N.Z.A., and is granted the temporary rank of
Lieutenant-Colonel. Dated 1 April 1955.

3rd Field Regiment, R.N.Z.A.

Lieutenant-Colonel B. G. MacAvoy, E.D., relinquishes the
appointment of C.O., 3rd Field Regiment, R.N.Z.A., and is
transferred to the Reserve of Officers, General List, The Royal
N.Z. Artillery, with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. Dated 31
March 1955.

4th Medium Regiment, R.N.Z.A.

Lieutenant-Colonel S. T. Nokan, E.D., is granted an ex-
tension of his appointment as C.O., 4th Medium Regiment,
R.N.Z.A., until 30 June 1955.

5th Light Regiment, R.N.Z.A.

2nd Lieutenant T. P. Samuel, from the Reserve of Officers,
General List, The Royal N.Z. Artillery, to be 2nd Lieutenant,
with seniority from 5 June 1954. Dated 22 February 1955.

6th Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, R.N.Z.A.

Major R. J. Grocfield, E.D., is appointed C.O., 6th Light
Anti-Aircraft Regiment, R.N.Z.A., and is granted the tem-
porary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. Dated 1 April 1955.

THE CORPS OF ROYAL N.Z. ENGINEERS

Regular Force

Major D. P. Wakefield is granted a further extension of
his short-service commission for a period of one year as from
1 April 1955.

Lieutenant (temp. Captain) C. A. Kibblewhite, B.E.(Civil),
to be Captain. Dated 9 December 1955.

Territorial Force

Lieutenant-Colonel G. A. Lindell, D.S.O., E.D., A.M.I.
Struct.E., A.M.N.Z.I.E., relinquishes the appointment of
C.R.E., N.Z. Division, and C.O., 1st Field Engineer Regiment,
R.N.Z.E., and is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, General
List, The Corps of Royal N.Z. Engineers, with the rank of
Lieutenant-Colonel. Dated 15 April 1955.

Major G. K. Armstrong, D.S.O., M.C., B.E.(Civ.), A.M.I.C.E.,
A.M.N.Z.I.E., is appointed C.R.E., N.Z. Division, and C.O.,
1st Field Engineer Regiment, R.N.Z.E., and is granted the
temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. Dated 16 April 1955.

1st Field Engineer Regiment, R.N.Z.E.

Lieutenant J. H. B. Fisher to be temp. Captain. Dated 3
February 1955.

Lieutenant B. J. Naylor to be temp. Captain. Dated 24
February 1955.

Lieutenant R. E. N. Oakley, A.N.Z.I.A., to be temp. Cap-
tain. Dated 24 February 1955.

THE ROYAL N.Z. CORPS OF SIGNALS

Regular Force

Captain J. W. Stenberg to be temp. Major. Dated 11 April
1955.

The appointment of Lieutenant (on prob.) R. Rutledge is
confirmed.

Territorial Force

1st Divisional Signals Regiment, R.N.Z. Sigs.

Captain J. Ballin, M.B., Ch.B., R.N.Z.A.M.C., relinquishes
the appointment of R.M.O., 1st Divisional Signals Regiment,
R.N.Z. Sigs., and is posted to the Retired List. Dated 1
August 1954.

THE ROYAL N.Z. INFANTRY CORPS

Territorial Force

The Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own)

Captain R. A. Wright, 1st Battalion, ceases to be seconded
to Headquarters, 1st Infantry Brigade, for duty as G.S.O. 3.

The Hauraki Regiment

The appointment of 2nd Lieutenant (on prob.) P. H.
Aparn, 1st Battalion, is confirmed.

The Northland Regiment

Lieutenant-Colonel J. H. Garland, E.D., relinquishes the
appointment of C.O., 1st Battalion, The Northland Regiment,
and is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, General List,
The Royal N.Z. Infantry Corps, with the rank of Lieutenant-
Colonel. Dated 14 April 1955.

Major E. H. J. Fairley, 1st Battalion, to be Lieutenant-
Colonel, and is appointed C.O., 1st Battalion, The Northland
Regiment. Dated 15 April 1955.

Lieutenant G. C. Marinkovic, 1st Battalion, to be temp.
Captain. Dated 1 April 1955.

Lieutenant R. A. Treanor, 1st Battalion, is attached to the
Whangarei Boys’ High School Cadets in addition to his
appointment with the 1st Battalion, The Northland Regiment.
Dated 23 March 1955.

Lieutenant-Colonel W. A. T. McGuire, O.B.E., E.D., is
granted an extension of his appointment as C.R.A.S.C., N.Z.

Lieutenant Raymond Francis Chappell, B.Com., from the
Reserve of Officers, General List, The Royal N.Z. Infantry
Corps, is granted a short-service commission for a period of
three years as from 1 April 1955 in the rank of Captain, with
seniority from 1 April 1953. Dated 1 April 1955.

Lloyd Verdun Baré, B.A., Dip.Ed., is granted a short-
service commission for a period of three years as from 28
February 1955 in the rank of Lieutenant, with seniority from
28 February 1952. Dated 28 February 1955.

Charles Ronald Ellis, B.A., is granted a short-service com-
mission for a period of three years as from 17 March 1955 in
the rank of Lieutenant, with seniority from 17 September
1953. Dated 17 March 1955.

THE ROYAL N.Z. NURSING CORPS

Regular Force

Sister K. M. W. Amon is granted an extension of her short-
service commission for a period of one year as from 26
January 1955.

N.Z. WOMEN’S ROYAL ARMY CORPS

Regular Force

Captain E. M. Pysden, M.B.E., is transferred to the Reserve
of Officers, General List, N.Z. Women’s Royal Army Corps,
with the rank of Captain. Dated 19 April 1955.

Lieutenant R. A. North is granted a further extension of
her short-service commission for a period of one year as from
13 April 1955.

Lieutenant M. F. Cowan was granted a further extension of
her short-service commission for a period of one year as from
31 March 1954.
