Appointments, Promotions, Transfers, Resignations, and Retirements of Officers of the New Zealand Army

Pursuant to section 16 of the New Zealand Army Act 1950, His Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, promotions, transfers, resignations, and retirements of officers of the New Zealand Army:

2nd Infantry Brigade

Lieutenant J. R. McIntosh, The Wellington Regiment (City of Wellington's Own), is appointed O.C., H.Q. Company, H.Q., 2nd Infantry Brigade, and is seconded. Dated 24 September 1954.

THE ROYAL N.Z. ARTILLERY

Territorial Force

Divisional Counter Bombardment Staff Troop, H.Q., R.A., N.Z. Division
The appointment of 2nd Lieutenant (on prob.) G. W. Leaming is confirmed.

1st Field Regiment, R.N.Z.A.

Major W. E. S. Halford, E.D., is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, General List, The Royal N.Z. Artillery, with the rank of Major. Dated 30 September 1954.

2nd Field Regiment, R.N.Z.A.

Captain L. G. Mitchell to be temp. Major. Dated 4 October 1954.

3rd Field Regiment, R.N.Z.A.

2nd Lieutenant J. A. Kennedy to be Lieutenant. Dated 4 July 1954.

13th Composite Anti-Aircraft Regiment, R.N.Z.A.

Hugo Ryeland Johnston to be 2nd Lieutenant. Dated 13th September 1954.

14th Composite Anti-Aircraft Regiment, R.N.Z.A.

William Patrick Burke (late Flying Officer, R.N.Z.A.F. General Reserve), to be Lieutenant, with seniority from 1 December 1953. Dated 23 August 1954.

THE ROYAL N.Z. ARMoured CORPS

Territorial Force

1st Armoured Regiment (Waikato), R.N.Z.A.C.
Captain (temp. Major) D. S. George, E.D., relinquishes the temporary rank of Major and is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Regimental List, 1st Armoured Regiment (Waikato), R.N.Z.A.C., with the rank of Captain, with seniority from 1 May, 1951. Dated 21 October 1954.

Captain B. L. Campbell, M.B., Ch.B., R.N.Z.A.M.C., relinquishes the appointment of R.M.O., 1st Armoured Regiment (Waikato), R.N.Z.A.C., and is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, General List, The Royal N.Z. Army Medical Corps, with the rank of Captain. Dated 30 September 1954.

THE CORPS OF ROYAL N.Z. ENGINEERS

Territorial Force

Temp. Lieutenant C. M. Dennes, late 38 Field Park Company, resigns his commission. Dated 4 October 1954.

1st Field Engineer Regiment, R.N.Z.E.
With reference to the notice published in the New Zealand Gazette, 23 September 1954, No. 56, page 1491, relative to the appointment of 2nd Lieutenants, for '592505 John Keith Barch', substitute '592505 John Keith Bargh'.

Norman Macleod Mackenzie to be 2nd Lieutenant (on prob.). Dated 1 October 1954.

Major P. N. Cryer, Retired List, relinquishes the appointment of Colonel Commandant, R.N.Z. Sigs. Dated 30 June 1954.

Lieutenant-Colonel C. A. McFarlane, B.Com., Retired List, is appointed Colonel Commandant, R.N.Z. Sigs. Dated 1 July 1954.

Captain (temp. Major) St. J. W. Christie is posted to the Retired List with the rank of Major. Dated 24 October 1954.

Territorial Force

With reference to the notice published in the New Zealand Gazette, 23 September 1954, No. 56, page 1491, relative to the appointment of 2nd Lieutenants, for '535015 Harry Robert Burt', substitute '535015 Harry Roberts Burt'.

The Northland Regiment

Lieutenant (temp. Captain) G. H. A. Sutherland, M.M., 1st Battalion, is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, General List, The Royal N.Z. Infantry Corps, with the rank of Captain. Dated 18 October 1954.

2nd Lieutenant W. J. Still, 1st Battalion, to be Lieutenant. Dated 26 September 1954.

The Wellington Regiment (City of Wellington's Own)

Lieutenant J. R. McIntosh, 1st Battalion, is seconded to H.Q., 2nd Infantry Brigade. Dated 24 September 1954.

2nd Lieutenant D. F. Quigley, 1st Battalion, to be Lieutenant. Dated 26 September 1954.

2nd Lieutenant R. W. Smith, 1st Battalion, to be temp. Lieutenant. Dated 12 October 1954.

The appointment of 2nd Lieutenant (on prob.) D. M. Withell, 1st Battalion, is confirmed.

The Otago and Southland Regiment

Lieutenant J. R. Harrison, M.B.E., 1st Battalion, is granted the acting rank of Captain. Dated 29 October 1954.

Captain and Quartermaster T. K. Hedley is posted to the Retired List. Dated 19 October 1954.
