Writ for Maori Election
To the Returning Officer for the Western Maori Electoral District.
IN pursuance of section 186 of the Electoral Act 1927, I hereby authorize and require you to proceed, according to law, to the election of a member of Parliament to serve in the House of Representatives for the Western Maori Electoral District.
I further direct that you cause the nominations for the said member to be received at the office of the Justice Department, Lambton Quay, Wellington, not later than noon on the 22nd day of October 1954, and, in the event of the election being contested, that the poll shall be taken on the 13th day of November 1954.
You are further required to endorse on this writ the name of the person so elected, and to return the writ to me on or before the 2nd day of December 1954.

WHEREAS pursuant to section 185 of the Electoral Act 1927, the boundaries of the several Maori Electoral Districts have, by Proclamation dated 10 March 1954, been redefined and declared:
Now, therefore, I, Thomas Clifton Webb, the Minister in Charge of the Electoral Department, hereby publish that I have received notice from the Chief Electoral Officer of new rolls formed in respect of the undermentioned districts, that is to say:
Eastern Maori.
Southern Maori.
Northern Maori.
Western Maori.

PURSUANT to the Electoral Act 1927, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Charles Willoughby Moke Norrie, the Governor-General of New Zealand, hereby abolish all existing polling places and hereby appoint the places mentioned in the Schedule hereto to be polling places for the Maori electoral districts therein specified.
