PURSUANT to the Land Act 1948, the Minister of Lands
hereby sets apart the land described in the Schedule
hereto as a reserve for recreation purposes and, further,
pursuant to the Reserves and Domains Act 1953, vests the
said reserve in the Mayor, Councillors, and Burgesses of the
Borough of Takapuna, in trust, for that purpose.

Revoking Appointment of and Appointing Licensing
Authorities for Issue of Heavy Traffic Licences

———

PURSUANT to subclause (2) of the Heavy Motor Vehicle
Regulations 1950,* the Minister of Transport hereby
revokes that part of a Warrant dated 2 May 1954† appointing
the local authorities described in Column No. 1 of the First
Schedule hereto as the appropriate Licensing Authorities for
the purpose of collecting heavy traffic fees due under the said
regulations for the district of the local authorities and for
such area or areas as are described in Column No. 2 of the
First Schedule hereto, and hereby appoints the local
authorities and persons described in Column No. 1 of the
Second Schedule attached hereto to be the appropriate
Licensing Authorities for the purpose of collecting heavy
traffic fees due under the said regulations for the district
of the local authority when local authorities are so
appointed, and for such area or other areas as are described
in Column No. 2 of the Second Schedule opposite the
respective name of said local authority or person:

Provided that the Commissioner of Transport shall be the
appropriate Licensing Authority in the case of all heavy
motor vehicles owned by the Crown.

Declaring Area to be a Closely Populated Locality for the
Purposes of the Transport Act 1949, Section 36

———

PURSUANT to section 36 of the Transport Act 1949, the
Minister of Transport hereby declares the area described
in the Schedule hereto to be a closely populated locality for
the purposes of the said section to the intent that a person
driving any motor-vehicle on any road therein at any time
during the period commencing on the date of this declaration
and ending on the 31st day of July 1954 shall be subject
to the maximum speed limit of thirty miles an hour fixed by
the said section.

By-laws Under the Rotorua Borough Act 1922

———

WHEREAS by section 8 of the Rotorua Borough Act 1922, all
electric light and power works theretofore provided, erected,
or constructed by the Crown in or in connection with the Town of
Rotorua remain vested in the Department of Tourist and Health
Resorts, as incorporated by the Rotorua Town Act 1907, and the
Rotorua Borough Act 1922 :

And whereas in respect of these works the said Department
has and may exercise all the powers for the time being conferred by
law on Borough Councils, except the power to borrow money by
way of special loan or to make and levy any rate :

And whereas by licences granted by the Governor-General in
Council, as published in the Gazette of 5 November 1931 and 1 October
1936, respectively, the said Department is authorized to generate
electricity and erect electric lines within the Borough of Rotorua
and portion of the County of Rotorua as set out in the Schedules
of the said licences :

Now, therefore, the said Department, in pursuance of the
powers hereinbefore recited and all other powers thereunto enabling
it, doth hereby amend the Rotorua Borough By-laws published in
the Gazette on the 18th day of February 1937, at page 431, by
revoking By-law No. 30 (as substituted by the Rotorua Borough
By-laws published in the Gazette on the 2nd day of February 1939,
at page 136), and substituting the following By-law, and doth hereby
declare that such revocation shall take effect and such new By-law
shall come into force on the 1st day of June 1954.

BY-LAW 30

If the Department should discontinue the supply to a consumer
for any of the reasons set out in By-law No. 29, or if an installation
is disconnected at the request of the consumer for any reason other
than a change of tenancy, then a payment of £1 shall be made for
the reconnection of such installation, together with reasonable
travelling expenses if incurred by the Department in the case of
installations outside the Borough of Rotorua.

Given under the common seal of the Department of Tourist
and Health Resorts, as incorporated under the Rotorua
Town Act 1907 and the Rotorua Borough Act 1922, and
under the hand of the Minister in Charge of the said
Department, this 26th day of May 1954.

Maternity Benefits for Patients in St. Helens Hospital,
Christchurch

———

PURSUANT to section 23 of the Social Security Amend-
ment Act 1950, the Minister of Health hereby approves
of any woman to whom medical services are rendered in the
State maternity hospital known as the St. Helens Hospital,
in Christchurch, by a medical practitioner selected by her,
receiving maternity benefits under subsection (1) of section
95 of the Social Security Act 1938, subject to the condition
that such medical practitioner shall have entered into an
agreement with the Medical Superintendent for the time
being of the said hospital, acting on behalf of the Crown, in
terms approved by the said Minister as to the conditions on
which the medical practitioner is to be entitled to treat his
patients in the said hospital.
