Reapplication of Convention Between New Zealand and Germany Relating to Legal Proceedings in Civil and Commercial Matters

NOTICE is hereby given that the Convention regarding Legal Proceedings in Civil and Commercial Matters signed at London on 20 March 1928* (which formerly applied between New Zealand and Western Samoa on the one hand and the German Reich on the other hand) now applies between New Zealand, the Cook Islands, and Western Samoa on the one hand, and the Federal Republic of Germany on the other hand, from 1 January 1953.

The Registrar of the Supreme Court of New Zealand at Wellington, the Registrar of the High Court of the Cook Islands, and the Registrar of the High Court of Western Samoa will act as the authorities to whom judicial and extrajudicial documents and Letters of Request should be addressed in New Zealand, the Cook Islands, and Western Samoa respectively, and it is requested that communications and translations may be made in the English language.

Import Control Exemption Notice (No. 16) 1953

PURSUANT to regulation 15 of the Import Control Regulations 1938,* the Minister of Customs hereby gives notice as follows:

  1. (1) This notice may be cited as the Import Control Exemption Notice (No. 16) 1953.

(2) This notice shall come into force on the 18th day of December 1953.

  1. Goods of the classes specified in the First Schedule hereto, imported from and being the produce or manufacture of any country, are hereby exempted from the requirement of a licence under the said regulations.

  2. Goods of the classes specified in the Second Schedule hereto, imported from and being the produce or manufacture of any country other than the countries specified in the Third Schedule hereto, are hereby exempted from the requirement of a licence under the said regulations.


FIRST SCHEDULE

399 Timber, viz.: Logs, round, unworked, viz.: (a) Ash, hickory, lancewood, lignum vitae, and the timbers the botanical names of which are Swietenia species, Juglans species, Juniperus virginiana (red cedar), Pinus lambertiana, Pinus strobus, Pinus monticola, Quercus sessiliflora, Quercus pedunculata, also balsa wood, and such other similar species or kinds of timber as the Minister may from time to time approve. (b) Oak (Quercus) n.e.i. (c) N.e.i.
400 Palings, split.
401 Posts, split.
402 Rails, split.
403 Laths and shingles.
404 Timber, rough sawn or rough hewn, viz.: (1) (a) Ash, hickory, lancewood, lignum vitae, and the timbers the botanical names of which are Swietenia species, Juglans species, Juniperus virginiana (red cedar), Pinus lambertiana, Pinus strobus, Pinus monticola, Quercus sessiliflora, Quercus pedunculata, also balsa wood, and such other similar species or kinds of timbers as the Minister may from time to time approve. (b) Oaks (Quercus) n.e.i. (2) (a) Redwood, Douglas fir, and other coniferous, in pieces having a length of not less than 25 ft., and having a minimum cross sectional area of not less than 150 square inches. (b) Other kinds, in pieces having a length of not less than 25 ft., and having a minimum cross sectional area of not less than 150 square inches. (3) N.e.i., viz.: (a) Douglas fir and other coniferous. (b) Other kinds.
405 Timber, sawn dressed, viz.: (a) Douglas fir, hemlock, and other coniferous. (b) Other kinds.

SECOND SCHEDULE

41 (2) Caramel.
262 Toilet preparations and perfumery n.e.i., including perfumed oil.
Ex 353 (8) (c) Domestic clothes-washing machines and parts thereof.
351 (5) Vacuum cleaners all types.

THIRD SCHEDULE

Notice Respecting Certain Tariff Inquiries

IT is hereby notified for public information that the reports made by the Board of Trade pursuant to Board of Trade notices set out in the Schedule hereto respecting the rates of import duty imposed on goods of the classes specified in that Schedule have been considered by the Government and it has been decided not to amend the duties at present imposed on such goods.

Compulsory Stoppage of Certain Vehicles at Railway Crossings—Provision of Exemptions

PURSUANT to section 46A of the Transport Act 1949 (as inserted by section 11 of the Transport Amendment Act 1953 and as amended by section 12 of the Transport Amendment (No. 2) Act 1953) the Minister of Transport hereby declares that nothing in subsection (1) of the said section 46A shall apply with respect to the railway crossings or classes of railway crossings described in the Schedule hereto.


SCHEDULE

  1. The railway crossing across the Masterton-Wellington State highway to the meat-works at Ngauranga in the Makara County.

  2. The four railway crossings across the Esplanade in the Borough of Petone.

  3. The railway crossing across the Hutt Road serving the meat-works in the Borough of Petone.

  4. The two railway crossings across the Waterloo Quay in the City of Wellington.

  5. All those railway crossings across Quay Street in the City of Auckland.

  6. The railway crossing across Victoria Street in the City of Hamilton.

  7. The railway crossing across Seaview Road in the City of Lower Hutt.

  8. The railway crossing across Hutt Park Road in the City of Lower Hutt.
