Price Order No. 1506 (Bread)

PURSUANT to the Control of Prices Act 1947, the Price Tribunal hereby makes the following Price Order:

PRELIMINARY

  1. This Order may be cited as Price Order No. 1506, and shall come into force on the 9th day of December 1953.
  2. (1) Price Orders Nos. 1147,* 1280†, 1352‡, and 1504§, the Board of Trade (Bread Price) Regulations 1936∥, and any existing approvals under section 16 in respect of sales of bread are hereby revoked.
    (2) The revocation of the said Orders, regulations, or approvals shall not affect the liability of any person for any offence in relation thereto committed before the coming into force of this Order.

APPLICATION OF THIS ORDER

  1. This Order applies to all bread sold in New Zealand by a wholesaler or by a retailer, but does not apply to bread sold on Stewart Island or to bread sold as part of a meal.

FIXING MAXIMUM WHOLESALE AND RETAIL PRICES OF BREAD TO WHICH THIS ORDER APPLIES

  1. Subject to the provisions of this Order, the prices set out in the First Schedule to this Order shall be the maximum prices which may be charged or received for any bread to which this Order applies and which is customarily known as:
    (a) Standard White Bread.
    (b) Standard Brown Bread.
    (c) Wholemeal Bread.
    (d) Vienna Bread.
    (e) Wheat Germ Bread.

  2. Subject to the provisions of this Order, the prices set out in the Second Schedule to this Order shall be the maximum prices which may be charged or received for any bread to which this Order applies and which is customarily known as Starch Reduced Bread.

  3. Subject to the provisions of this Order, the maximum prices which may be charged or received in any locality for any bread to which this Order applies of a type other than one of those described in clauses 4 or 5 of this Order shall be the price ruling in the following places:

The City of Auckland, the Boroughs of Birkenhead, Devonport, Northcote, Takapuna, New Lynn, Newmarket, Mount Albert, Mount Eden, Onehunga, One Tree Hill, Otahuhu, Ellerslie, Glen Eden, Henderson, Howick, Manurewa, Papakura, Papatoetoe, Mount Roskill, and Mount Wellington; and all other places within a radius of twenty-one miles from the Auckland Central Post Office exclusive of Waiheke Island:

The Cities of Wellington and Lower Hutt; and the Boroughs of Eastbourne and Petone:

The City of Christchurch; and the Boroughs of Kaiapoi, Lyttelton, Rangiora, and Riccarton:

The City of Dunedin; the Boroughs of Green Island, Mosgiel, Port Chalmers, St. Kilda, and West Harbour; the District of Sawyers Bay; and the Peninsula County:

The City of Invercargill:

The Borough of Ashburton:

The Borough of Temuka:

The City of Timaru:

The Borough of Oamaru,

immediately prior to the operation of this Order for that bread increased by 1d. per loaf of a weight regarded in the baking trade as a nominal 2 lb. loaf and by ½d. per loaf in respect of a weight regarded in the baking trade as a nominal 1 lb. loaf.

GENERAL

  1. The maximum prices fixed for any bread to which this Order applies are subject to the same general terms and conditions of sale as existed immediately prior to the coming into force of this Order.

  2. No additional charge shall be made for wrapping any bread to which this Order applies.
