Change of Working Frequency at Major Coast Stations
M ARINERS are advised that the working frequency of the
Post Office stations at Auckland, Wellington, and
Awarua will be changed from 2162 kc/s. to 2208 kc/s. on
1 May 1953, at 0001 N.Z.S.T.

Board of Trade Notice No. 56—Public Inquiry Into Import
Duties on Stationery, &c.
- The Board of Trade proposes to inquire into and report
upon the question of what rates of import duty should be
imposed under the following tariff items:-
Tariff Item 304.—Stationery, and paper, manufactured,
viz., account-books, scribbling-books, letter-books,
copying letter-books, counter books, guard books, copy-
books with headlines on each page, drawing-books,
sketch-books, diaries, birthday-books, scribbling and
letter blocks; book-covers; book-markers; billhead,
invoice, and statement forms; cheque and draft
forms; tags; labels, all kinds; printed window-
tickets; blotting-pads; Christmas, New Year, birth-
day, Easter, and other booklets and cards, n.e.i.;
printed, lithographed, ruled, or embossed stationery,
n.e.i.; albums, all kinds.
Tariff Item 305.—Stationery n.e.i.; Cards, printers' menu,
programme, calendar, Christmas, and similar, of card-
board, celluloid, or similar material, edged, or having
embossed or printed thereon such words as ' Menu,'
' Calendar,' ' Christmas Greetings,' but otherwise
unprinted, and suited to be completed in New Zealand.
The present rates of import duty in respect of these
items are:-
Tariff Item 304—
British Preferential: 20% plus surtax at the rate of
nine-fortieths of the amount of duty in respect
of goods imported from Ireland (except Northern
Ireland), Union of South Africa, India and
Pakistan.
Australian Agreement: 30%.
Canadian Agreement: 30%.
General: 55% plus surtax at the rate of nine-fortieths
of the amount of duty.
Tariff Item 305—
British Preferential: 20% plus surtax at the rate of
nine-fortieths of the amount of duty in respect
of goods imported from Ireland (except Northern
Ireland), Union of South Africa, India and
Pakistan.
Australian Agreement: 30%.
Canadian Agreement: 30%.
General: 50% plus surtax at the rate of nine-fortieths
of the amount of duty.

For the purpose of taking evidence on the review of
these Tariff Items, the Board will hold a public inquiry
commencing on Tuesday, 4 August 1953, at 10.30 a.m. in the
Board Room, First Floor, Departmental Buildings, Stout
Street, Wellington. -
Any person who intends to tender evidence should
comply with the notes for the guidance of witnesses which have
been approved by the Board. A copy of these notes may be
obtained from the office of any Collector of Customs or from
the undersigned. -
A typewritten statement of the evidence to be tendered,
compiled in accordance with these notes of guidance, should be
lodged with the undersigned on or before Tuesday, 21 July -
Each statement will, in general, need to be presented
under oath at the public inquiry, by the person tendering it.

The Standards Act 1941-Draft New Zealand Standard
Specification-No. D. 4266: Exterior Plywoods
NOTICE is hereby given that the above draft New Zealand
Standard Specification is now being circulated to
affected interests for consideration and comment. The closing
date fixed for such comment is 28 May 1953.
All persons who may be affected by this specification
once it has been declared a Standard Specification by the
Minister of Industries and Commerce may, at any time before
the closing date for comments, obtain, on application, free
copies from the New Zealand Standards Institute, Hamilton
Chambers, 201 Lambton Quay (P.O. Box 195), Wellington,
so as to have an opportunity to consider the draft and to
comment thereon to the Standards Council or to an appropriate
committee of the Council in accordance with subsection (3)
of section 8 of the Standards Act 1941.
