✨ Price Orders and Notices
Pursuant to the Control of Prices Act 1947, the Price Tribunal,
acting with the authority of the Minister of Industries and
Commerce, hereby makes the following Price Order :—
- This Order may be cited as Price Order No. 1398, and shall
come into force on the 4th day of August 1952. - Price Order No. 1395* is hereby revoked.
APPLICATION OF THIS ORDER
- This Order applies with respect to all potatoes imported
into New Zealand from Australia and sold by way of retail.
FIXING MAXIMUM RETAIL PRICES OF POTATOES TO WHICH THIS
ORDER APPLIES
- The maximum price that may be charged or received for
any potatoes to which this Order applies that are sold by way of
retail shall be determined as follows :
North Island
(a) Where the potatoes are sold by any retailer whose place
of business is situate within a radius of twenty miles
from the principal Post Office at Auckland or Wellington,
the maximum price shall be 5½d. per pound.
(b) Where the potatoes are sold by any retailer whose place
of business is situate elsewhere in the North Island
than at one of the places specified in paragraph (a)
hereof the maximum price shall be 6d. per pound.
South Island
(c) Where the potatoes are sold by any retailer whose place
of business is situate in the land district of Nelson or
within a radius of twenty miles from the principal
Post Office at Christchurch or Dunedin, the maximum
price shall be 6d. per pound.
(d) When the potatoes are sold by any retailer whose place of
business is situated elsewhere in the South Island than
at one of the places specified in paragraph (c) hereof the
maximum price shall be 6½d. per pound.
DUTY IMPOSED ON RETAILERS
- Every retailer who offers or exposes any potatoes to which
this Order applies for sale in any shop shall keep in a prominent
position in such proximity to the potatoes to which it relates as
to be obviously descriptive thereof a ticket, placard, or label on
which shall be stated in legible and prominent characters the word
“Australian” and the retail price per pound.

Price Order No. 1397 (Amendment No. 1 of Price Order 1327)
Australian, South African, and Jamaican Oranges and Jamaican
Grapefruit
Pursuant to the Control of Prices Act 1947, the Price Tribunal,
acting with the authority of the Minister of Industries and
Commerce, hereby makes the following amending Price Order :—
-
This Order may be cited as Price Order No. 1397, and shall
be read together with and deemed part of Price Order No. 1327*
(hereinafter referred to as the principal Order). -
This Order shall come into force on the 1st day of August
-
The principal Order is amended as follows :—
By revoking clause 4 and substituting the following clause :—
“ 4. (1) The maximum price that may be charged or received
by any retailer for any oranges or grapefruit to which this Order
applies shall be determined as follows :—
“(a) With respect to oranges and grapefruit sold at any place
within the metropolitan areas of Auckland, Wellington,
Christchurch, or Dunedin as defined in the Schedule
hereto or in any of the cities or boroughs of Whangarei,
Hamilton, Gisborne, New Plymouth, Stratford, Wanganui, Palmerston North, Napier, Hastings, Blenheim,
Nelson, Greymouth, Westport, Timaru, Oamaru, Gore,
or Invercargill—
At the rate of:
Per Pound.

“Australian or South African oranges 1 2½
“Jamaican oranges ... 1 2
“Jamaican grapefruit ... 0 11
“(b) With respect to oranges and grapefruit sold elsewhere in
New Zealand—
At the rate of:

“Jamaican oranges ... 1 2½
“Jamaican grapefruit ... 0 11½
“(2) If in respect of any lot of oranges or grapefruit the price
calculated in accordance with the foregoing provisions of this clause
is not an exact number of pence or halfpence, the maximum price
of the lot shall be computed to the next upward halfpenny.”
