Retail Sale and Distribution of Motor-spirit
A. Smith, Murapara, has applied for a licence to resell motor-spirit from one pump to be installed on proposed garage premises at Murapara.
Waipu Transport Co., corner North River and Ferry Roads, Waipu, has applied for a licence to resell motor-spirit from one pump to be installed on cartage contracting premises, corner North River and Ferry Roads, Waipu.
W. S. Aitken, Pine Street, Geraldine, has applied for a licence to resell motor-spirit from one pump to be installed on taxi and rental car premises at Pine Street, Geraldine.
Eltham Co-op. Dairy Factory Co., Ltd., Collingwood Street, Eltham, has applied for permission to shift four pumps from the east side of Collingwood Street to proposed new garage premises on the west side of Collingwood Street, Eltham.
Hunterville Motors, Ltd., Bruce Street, Hunterville, has applied for permission to change the retail selling-point of their three petrol pumps from Bruce Street to a new site in Milne Street, Hunterville.
Applicants and other persons considering themselves to be materially affected by the decisions of the Bureau of Industry on these applications should, not later than 7 August 1952, submit any written evidence and representations they may desire to tender. All communications should be addressed to Secretary, Bureau of Industry, C.P.O. Box 2492, Wellington.

Price Order No. 1395 (Australian Potatoes)
PURSUANT to the Control of Prices Act 1947, the Price Tribunal, acting with the authority of the Minister of Industries and Commerce, hereby makes the following Price Order:-

This Order may be cited as Price Order No. 1395, and shall come into force on the 25th day of July 1952.

Price Order No. 1391* is hereby revoked.
APPLICATION OF THIS ORDER
- This Order applies with respect to all potatoes imported into New Zealand from Australia and sold by way of retail.
FIXING MAXIMUM RETAIL PRICES OF POTATOES TO WHICH THIS ORDER APPLIES
- The maximum price that may be charged or received for any potatoes to which this Order applies that are sold by way of retail shall be determined as follows:-
(a) Where the potatoes are sold by any retailer whose place of business is situate within a radius of twenty miles from the principal Post Office at Auckland or Wellington, the maximum price shall be 5½d. per pound.
(b) Where the potatoes are sold by any retailer whose place of business is situate elsewhere than at one of the places specified in paragraph (a) hereof the maximum price shall be 6d. per pound.
DUTY IMPOSED ON RETAILERS
- Every retailer who offers or exposes any potatoes to which this Order applies for sale in any shop shall keep in a prominent position in such proximity to the potatoes to which it relates as to be obviously descriptive thereof a ticket, placard, or label on which shall be stated in legible and prominent characters the word "Australian" and the retail price per pound.

Board of Trade Notice No. 32--Public Inquiry Into Tariff Duties on Chinaware, Earthenware, &c.

- THE Board of Trade proposes to inquire into and report upon the question of what rate of duty should be imposed under the following Tariff Items:-
Tariff Item 214.--Chinaware, earthenware, and porcelainware, viz.: breakfast, dinner, and tea sets; cups, saucers, plates, dishes, and such similar articles suited for table use as may be approved by the Minister.
Tariff Item 215.--Chinaware, earthenware, porcelainware, and stoneware, n.e.i.
The present rates of tariff duty in respect of these items are:-
Tariff Item 214-
British Preferential: Free.
Most Favoured Nation: 40%.
General: 45% plus surtax at the rate of nine-fortieths of the amount of duty.
Tariff Item 215--
British Preferential: 20%.
Most Favoured Nation: 45%.
General: 45% plus surtax at the rate of nine-fortieths of the amount of duty.

For the purpose of taking evidence on the review of these Tariff Items, the Board will hold a public inquiry, commencing on Tuesday, 18 November 1952, at 10.30 a.m. in the Board Room, First Floor, Departmental Building, Stout Street, Wellington.

Any person who intends to tender evidence should comply with the notes for the guidance of witnesses which have been approved by the Board. A copy of these notes may be obtained from any Collector of Customs or on application to the undersigned.

A typewritten statement of the evidence to be tendered, compiled in accordance with these notes of guidance, should be lodged with the undersigned on or before Tuesday, 4 November 1952. Each statement will, in general, need to be read under oath at the public inquiry by the person tendering it.
