Alterations to the Scale of Charges Upon the New Zealand Government Railways
IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under the Government Railways Act 1949, and of all other powers enabling me in this behalf, I, William Stanley Goosman, Minister of Railways, do hereby make the following alterations to the General Scale of Charges made on the 13th day of April 1939, and published in the Supplement dated the 19th day of April 1939, to the New Zealand Gazette of the 13th day of April 1939, and the Local Rates Scale of Charges made on the 18th day of December 1950, and published in the Supplement dated the 19th day of December 1950, to the New Zealand Gazette of the 14th day of December 1950, in force on the New Zealand Government Railways open for traffic, and do hereby declare that such alterations shall come into force on the 16th day of December 1951.
GENERAL SCALE OF CHARGES
LUGGAGE, PARCELS, ETC.
The rates and charges as set out in regulations 44 to 67 inclusive, with the exceptions indicated hereafter, will be increased by 20 per centum; minimum increase, 1d.
Exceptions.—The following will not be increased:—
The rates embodied in regulation 45, paragraph 11, for luggage checks between points other than from stations on the North Island main line and branches and Stewart Island.
The rates embodied in regulation 45, paragraphs 12 and 14.
The rates embodied in regulation 46, paragraph 16, under the heading “Nelson Harbour Board.”
The left luggage charge of 6d. per package embodied in regulation 50, paragraph 1.
The insurance charge embodied in regulation 50, paragraph 13, and regulation 51, paragraph 6.
Regulation 45, paragraph 11: Stewart Island: Omit 2s., insert 2s. 3d.
Regulation 46: Omit from paragraph 13 the schedule of rates, and substitute the following:—

Regulation 46: Omit paragraph 15, and substitute the following:—
- The following are the shipping companies’ charges between Wellington and Lyttelton, Wellington and Picton, and between Wellington and Nelson:—
Bona fide personal luggage, free allowance inclusive of workmen’s tools, 1 cwt. per adult passenger.

Excess luggage, 4s. per 56 lb. or fraction of 56 lb.

Samples (free allowance inclusive of bona fide personal luggage, 1 cwt. per adult passenger), 2s. 9d. per 56 lb. or fraction of 56 lb. (up to 15 cwt.).
Samples in quantities over 15 cwt., 4s. per 56 lb. or fraction of 56 lb.
Bicycles, 13s. 3d. each.
Bicycles, motor, 27s. 6d. each.
Bicycles, motor, with side-car, 55s. each.
Sewing-machines, 13s. 3d. each.
† Fruit (between Wellington and Nelson only), 2s. per case.
- Minimum charge per consignment comprising one or more of the items listed in this paragraph, 3s.
† If no other items of excess luggage are carried the minimum charge of 8s. will not apply.
For the purposes of this paragraph “shipping company” has the same meaning as is prescribed by paragraph 19, regulation 45.
Regulation 46, paragraph 16: Omit particulars relating to wharfage at Wellington, Picton, and Lyttelton, and substitute the following:—
Wellington Harbour Board—
Bona fide personal luggage (exclusive of workmen’s tools or samples) up to 1 cwt., free.
Excess luggage (including workmen’s tools and samples) computed on weight, 2d. per cwt. or fraction thereof. Minimum charge, 6d.
Bicycles, each, inwards, 1s. 1d.; outwards, 6d.
Bicycles, motor, each, inwards, 2s. 8d.; outwards, 2s. 2d.
Bicycles, motor, with side-car, each, inwards, 7s. 10d.; outwards, 6s. 3d.
Sewing-machines, each, inwards, 1s. 2d.; outwards, 6d.
Picton—
Bona fide personal luggage (exclusive of workmen’s tools or samples) up to 1 cwt., free.
Excess luggage (including workmen’s tools and samples) computed on weight, 3d. per cwt. or fraction thereof. Minimum charge, 5d.
Bicycles, 6d. each.
Bicycles, motor, 2s. each.
Bicycles, motor, with side-car, 5s. 6d. each.
Sewing-machines, 6d. each.
Lyttelton Harbour Board—
Bona fide personal luggage (exclusive of workmen’s tools or samples) up to 5 cwt., free.
Excess luggage (including workmen’s tools) computed on weight, 3s. per ton. Minimum charge, 6d.
Commercial travellers’ samples, 1s. 9d. per ton. Minimum charge, 6d.
Bicycles, 6d. each.
Bicycles, motor, 1s. each.
Bicycles, motor, with side-car, 1s. 9d. each.
Sewing-machines, 6d. each.
