NEW PUBLICATIONS
THE undermentioned new chart has been published by the Hydrographic Branch, Lands and Survey Department, September 1951, under the superintendence of Commander J. M. Sharpey-Schafer, R.N., and copies may be obtained from Mercantile Marine Offices in the Dominion:—
Chart No. N.Z. 23, New Zealand North and South Islands Cook Strait.
The following differences between Chart N.Z. 23 and Admiralty Charts of Cook Strait should be noted:—
(a) Canterbury Rock, lat. 40° 51′ S.; 174° 07′ E. (approx.), does nor exist. An area one mile around its charted position has been swept.
(b) The “Obstruction reported” off Turakirae Head 151° 2·8 miles from Baring Head Lighthouse does not exist. An area one mile around its charted position has been swept.
(c) The buoys off the Wairau River-mouth, lat., 41° 30′ S.; long., 174° 04′ E. (approx.), no longer exist.
(d) The light at the Manawatu River-mouth, lat., 40° 28′ S.; long., 175° 13′ E. (approx.), no longer exists.
