Decisions Under Customs Acts

Customs Department, Wellington, 1st May, 1951.

IT is hereby notified for public information that it has been decided to interpret the Customs Acts in relation to the undermentioned articles as follows:

NOTES.-(a) "Not elsewhere included" appears as n.e.i.; "other kinds" as o.k.; "articles and materials suited for, and to be used solely in, the fabrication or repair of goods within New Zealand" as a. and m.s. (b) Articles marked thus + are revised decisions. (c) The rates of duty payable on goods set out hereunder have not been shown except in the case of goods classed under Tariff items 416, 448, and 449, and of goods admitted (under the provisions of section 11 of the Customs Amendment Act, 1927) at a rate of duty lower than that provided for in the First Schedule to the Customs Acts Amendment Act, 1934. Where goods are admitted under the provisions of section 11 aforesaid, the reduced rate is marked with an asterisk. (d) Steam-engines, gas-engines, oil-engines, and electric or other motors are not, unless otherwise indicated, to be regarded as parts of the machines with which they are imported. (e) Surtax as provided for in section 5 of the Customs Acts Amendment Act, 1930, or primage duty as provided for in section 4 of the Customs Acts Amendment Act, 1931, as the case may be, is payable in addition to the duties set out hereunder.

A. and m.s.-Textile piece goods- Union textiles n.e.i. in the piece, 50 to 56 inches wide, the invoice price of which does not exceed 13s. 6d. per yard, when cut up and made into shirts, pyjamas, or underclothing in accordance with the conditions applicable to union textiles under Tariff item 187 448 (3) 3 per cent.
132-30/122/6 Union textiles n.e.i. in the piece, tubular woven, the invoice price of which does not exceed the equivalent of 9s. per square yard of material if opened up, when cut up and made into underclothing, in accordance with the conditions applicable to union textiles under Tariff item 187 448 (3) 3 per cent.
The decisions in M.O. 128 respecting union textiles n.e.i. under Tariff item 448 (3) are cancelled
Celluloid in sheets or rolls-Tape, cellulose, adhesive, including any disposable-type dispenser in which the tape is mounted. (See also Tariff item 356 (1) (c) ) 271
132-5/163 The decision in M.O. 125 on "Tape, cellulose, adhesive, &c.," under Tariff item 271 is cancelled.
Metal manufactures n.e.i., &c.- Dispensers, other than disposable types of no permanent value, for rolls of adhesive tape 356 (1) (c)
Rolls of tape imported therein are to be classed separately under Tariff item 271.
Textile piece goods-Cotton, linen, silk, &c.- Quilts, candlewick or similar pile fabric 180 (7)

NOTE.-The current domestic value of union textiles for the purposes of Tariff item 187 is increased to 6s. 9d. per yard and the note to item 187 of the Customs Tariff of New Zealand is increased accordingly.

NOTICE is hereby given that under regulation 7 of the Tuberculosis Regulations 1949, the following persons (all being registered medical practitioners) and being additional to those contained in New Zealand Gazette Notice No. 59, dated 13th October, 1949, page 2453, and No. 26, dated 4th May, 1950, page 530, have been approved as qualified to perform vaccinations against tuberculosis in accordance with the provisions of the aforesaid regulations:-

Position : Otahuhu Point, Lat., 36° 47' S.; Long., 174° 55'.7 E. (approx.).

Details : A submarine telephone cable has been laid as follows :-

Commencing at a point 2 cables 351° from the above point; thence 139° 4 cables; thence 156° 7 cables; thence 190° to Motuihi Island.

Vessels are warned not to anchor in the vicinity of the cable.
