Appointing One Member of the Rangitikei Catchment Board

WHEREAS the combined district of the Boroughs of Raetihi and Ohakune failed to elect a representative to the Rangitikei Catchment Board :

Now, therefore, pursuant to section 51 of the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Act, 1941, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby appoint

Murray Ingram, Esquire, of Ohakune,

to be a member of the Rangitikei Catchment Board.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General this 17th day of February, 1951.

Appointments in the Royal New Zealand Navy

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve the following appointments in the Royal New Zealand Navy :

Mr. Brian McKenzie Bary, M.Sc., entered in the Royal New Zealand Navy (Defence Scientific Corps, Naval Section), to date 12th April, 1950, granted a five-year short-service commission in the rank of Lieutenant (Special Branch) with seniority of 12th April, 1945, and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel”, additional, for training, to date 12th April, 1950.

Mr. Charles Selwyn Grace, M.Sc., entered in the Royal New Zealand Navy (Defence Scientific Corps, Naval Section), to date 18th March, 1949, granted a five-year short-service commission in the rank of Sub-Lieutenant (Special Branch) with seniority of 18th March, 1949, and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel”, additional, for training, to date 18th March, 1949.

Mr. Alick Charles Kibblewhite, M.Sc., entered in the Royal New Zealand Navy (Defence Scientific Corps, Naval Section), to date 1st December, 1949, granted a five-year short-service commission in the rank of Sub-Lieutenant (Special Branch) with seniority of 1st December, 1949, and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel”, additional, for training, to date 1st December, 1949.

THE ROYAL N.Z. ARTILLERY

Regular Force—

Captain (temp. Major) J. Burns, M.B.E., to be Major. Dated 25th January, 1951.

Territorial Force—

Captain E. L. Ryan, 1st Locating Battery, R.N.Z.A., is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, General List, The Royal N.Z. Artillery, with the rank of Captain, with seniority from 22nd March, 1947. Dated 21st November, 1950.

With reference to the notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 1, dated 11th January, 1951, relative to the transfer of Temp. Lieutenant W. D. Thomas, 11th Coast Regiment, R.N.Z.A., for “Dated 29th October, 1950.”, substitute “Dated 9th November, 1950.”.

Regular Force—

Lieutenant C. Fanselow to be Captain. Dated 28th June, 1950.

Lieutenant G. T. Seccombe, D.C.M., to be Temp. Captain. Dated 17th November, 1950.

Major R. H. Kerr, 1st Armoured Car Regiment (New Zealand Scottish), R.N.Z.A.C., is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, General List, The Royal N.Z. Armoured Corps, with the rank of Major, with seniority from 2nd April, 1947. Dated 1st January, 1951.

THE ROYAL N.Z. CORPS OF SIGNALS

Regular Force—

Captain J. Ayto to be Temp. Major whilst holding the appointment of Officiating Commandant, The Army Schools, Trentham. Dated 7th February, 1951.

THE ROYAL N.Z. INFANTRY CORPS

N.Z. Regiment—

Captain E. G. Taylor to be Temp. Major whilst holding the appointment of Chief Instructor, School of Infantry, The Army Schools, Trentham. Dated 1st September, 1950.

David Stewart Gibb, D.F.C., M.A. (Hons.), Dip.Ed., Dip.Soc.Sci., is granted a short-service commission for a period of three years as from 30th January, 1951, in the rank of Captain, with seniority from 30th January, 1950, and is appointed Personnel Selection Officer, A.E.W.S. Headquarters, Central Military District. Dated 30th January, 1951.

Lieutenant A. P. Gurnsey resigns his commission. Dated 2nd February, 1951.

Territorial Force—

3rd Infantry Brigade—

Brigadier J. Conolly, D.S.O., relinquishes the appointment of Commander, 3rd Infantry Brigade, and is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, General List, The Royal N.Z. Infantry Corps, with the rank of Brigadier, with seniority from 15th February, 1950. Dated 1st February, 1951.

Lieutenant-Colonel E. A. McPhail, D.S.O., M.C., from the Otago and Southland Regiment, to be Brigadier, and is appointed Commander, 3rd Infantry Brigade. Dated 1st February, 1951.

The Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own)—

David Stuart Cumberbeach, M.Sc., to be 2nd Lieutenant (on prob.), and is seconded to the King’s College Cadets, Area 1. Dated 1st March, 1950.

The Hauraki Regiment—

Captain W. S. Banks, 1st Battalion, to be Temp. Major. Dated 14th December, 1950.

Lieutenant M. H. Macneil, 1st Battalion, to be Temp. Captain. Dated 14th December, 1950.

Lieutenant I. Robertson, 1st Battalion, to be Temp. Captain. Dated 14th December, 1950.

Lieutenant R. F. Smith, 1st Battalion, to be Temp. Captain. Dated 14th December, 1950.

Temp. Lieutenant H. C. Read ceases to be seconded to the Tauranga College Cadets and resigns his commission. Dated 1st November, 1950.

The Wellington West Coast and Taranaki Regiment—

Lieutenant-Colonel R. B. Schulze, E.D., from the Retired List, to be Lieutenant-Colonel, with seniority from 4th April, 1947, is seconded to the Palmerston North Technical College Cadets and is appointed O.C., Palmerston North Technical College Cadets. Dated 6th February, 1951.

The Hawke’s Bay Regiment—

2nd Lieutenant R. D. Arnold ceases to be seconded to the Napier Boys’ High School Cadets and resigns his commission. Dated 11th December, 1950.

The Canterbury Regiment—

Captain C. S. P. Nicholls, from the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, to be Lieutenant, with seniority from 11th June, 1947, and is posted to the 1st Battalion. Dated 26th August, 1950.

The Otago and Southland Regiment—

Lieutenant-Colonel E. A. McPhail, D.S.O., M.C., relinquishes the appointment of C.O., 1st Battalion. Dated 1st February, 1951.

Major A. Ross, M.C., ceases to be seconded to the 3rd Infantry Brigade for duty as Brigade Major and is appointed C.O., 1st Battalion. Dated 1st February, 1951.

THE ROYAL N.Z. ARMY SERVICE CORPS

Regular Force—

Captain and Quartermaster C. E. Graham to be Temp. Major and Quartermaster whilst holding the appointment of Deputy Assistant Director of Supplies and Transport, Southern Military District. Dated 1st January, 1951.

Territorial Force—

Lieutenant J. A. Calvin, 4th Company, R.N.Z.A.S.C., is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, General List, The Royal N.Z. Army Service Corps, with the rank of Lieutenant, with seniority from 17th February, 1948. Dated 17th December, 1950.
